I saw a WTS thread in B&S, it must have been on market now.
Any reviews or sample shots? My google results are crowded by non-IS kit lens. |

To put IS on the kit lens is kinda waste in my belief, unless the new kit lens's
optical quality has been improved significantly. Some threads say there are new glass elements added to the lens, so I am eager to see the outcome. If it's like EF75-300IS to EF70-300IS kind of improvement, then I will definitely buy one. |

There is an improvement in IQ from the new kit lens, as compared to the older 18-55. It's not an amazingly marked improvement, but it is still an improvement nonetheless.

I don't think they would improve the quality of their kit lenses to L standard, or anything approaching that in fear of killing their own sales. I have been satisfied at what I could get out of a kit lens though.

Play with it yesterday at CP. The IS, not too bad...Quiet good as a kit already got IS function...

OT a bit - I hope all the future USM lenses will be ring USM instead of the crappy micro USM.

Canon, like any other Japanese company, leaves the best for their home market.
The original 18-55 kit lens has USM in the Japanese version. |

The USM version for the kit has been around for a while - it's mentioned in the lens book and I think someone is even selling it second hand in buy sell. Wondering about the 17-55 IS 3.5-5.6.
The kit lens optics is not that bad - almost similar to the 17-85 IS IMHO.
