Default Ownuser grip

Okay guys. I'm in BBB mode now.

Just bought the "56" flash today for $450 at MSColour and a Lowepro bag.

Next, Own user grip and a 18 or 20 - 200 lense.

However, i have a query about the ownuser grip.
I belive there are 2 brands that make batt grip right(sry cant remember the brand)? Which is better?

How's the pricings like and where can i get it in SG?

Cheers,
Jun Kai

To my knowledge there is 2 distinct types:
  • The one commonly available is SG uses the A100 batteries. Comes with 1 more shuttler button and is moulded to fit the A100 very nicely.
  • The second one which is not common (not sure can find or not) runs on AA batteries. Although it takes in 12 batteries (HEAVY!), it can run on 6. Bigger than the first one, so if your hands not very big (ie. you don't have angmo size hands), will not fit your hands so well. Comes with 2 shuttler buttons, so good for people who holds the camera differently for portrait shots.

Which one you buy depends on you. As far as I know, most Sporeans get the first one. Cost just under $200. Available in most major shops.

I personally got the 2nd one. Got it online from US. After shipping, came up to under S$130. Main reason for my choice, PRICE.

Hope that helps.

I got the DICAIN for my KM5D direct from Korea. Works and feels perfect, though some bros may feel it's a little pricy at S$200+ (with 1 batt). Some may also not like the fact that there is no dial on the vertical grip.

The Dicain one seems better... noticed the position of the shutter release button... it is like the grip from Sony for the new A700. More ergonomic isn't it...

I am using the ownuser. Bought from the comex show last month from booth setup by Laus.

Notice that Orient photo and alan photo also selling recently.

My comment is, the ownuser grip is bigger and if you had big hands or own a big lens. It is better to counter the weight.

One thing i must comment is the ownuser service. The grip i got is a batch one type and i kept facing the low batt problem on my D70s. With 2 full batt, i get low batt after about 2oo shots. Went back to Laus for exchange, they said it is like that one. Damn piss off.

As such, me wrote to taiwan ownuser directly. They said the new batch does not have this issue and also added the L / R / A option (Left Batt / Right Batt / All Batt) for you to switch between batts. Best of it, they shipped a new grip to me in just 2 days time with no question asked. Of course, i had to return the old grip to them and they had even email me to return the old grip after i had tested the new grip is working fine.

for their customer service ...

BTW, mine is the "2nd batch" with the switch to switch A or B or Off.

So now who wanna take over my name on the list of Dicain on MScolour?

Hi,
The new batch should have a L / R / A option. The A/B/Off is default...
