1DS for the build of the camera/durability and 5D for the convenience in size. I don't own both, but i've heard that the 5D offers better image quality in terms of lower noise as well, so this might be a factor too.

1Ds ....better build...more relaible....BUT the ones you can lay your hands on these days are proberbly super used . Unless you can still find rich equipment collectors/traders who just buy and admire the hardware.
if you really need 100% viewfinder coverage and if 4fps is a big deal over 3fps, then sit back and wait for the pros to let go their Mk-II. Think can get a better deal. But your PC/Mac better be up to the task of crunching 10+Mb photos with ease. The way I see it, the MkIII is really to 'take over' medium format, so it is somewhat at another levle. So chances of the folks in the professional community discarding their Mk II is not high. So, in your situation, perhpas the 5D is a more practical option. Just my 2 yen's worth ![]() PS: I assume that you are thinking of getting either the 1Ds or 5D. Last edited by dreamtheatre; 21st September 2007 at 08:35 PM. |

Do consider the 40D. I tried it at Canon's Vivocity showroom, feels and works like a charm. The liveview is pretty interesting.

If you are upgrading from 10D and never use film before, then 40D is a better choice since you have all the lenses. If you are like me who use to have and use film camera and have many lenses meant for Full frame camera. Get either 1DS or 5d depends on the price. Remeber the later the camera is release, the better the noise on the sensor, more stable feature and some new interesting. As for me, I am waiting for the new 5D as 1DS MKII & MKIII are out of reach for me.

5D for ISO 3200 bigger buffer and picture style, 1Ds is slow camera and ISO 1250 max which not so impressive.

Get the 5D!
Image quality is thought to be better than 1Ds. 5D's strengths are clean images at higher ISO, which 1Ds doesn't even have. I shoot regularly at iso1600 and the pics are very usable. Battery: Can shoot to your heart's content without worrying about running out of juice. Can easily carry a spare or two since the batt is so small/light compared to the NP-E3. Size/Weight: Smaller and lighter than 1Ds, better portability and quite inconspicuous. Last edited by RCheah; 22nd September 2007 at 11:28 PM. |

Stick to your 10D, like I'm sticking to mine. Wait till next year for 7D!

To be precise.. .the 10-17 is built for the APS-C sized sensor. Which was why I mentioned earlier that it might not work. Not sure if it would be the same case as EF-s lenses hitting the mirror on the FF body.

Alternatively, you can just crop away the excess area given by the FF sensor to get back your aps-c sensor if you really insist on using an aps-c lens.
