Default Canon defective lens & cameras go under the hammer (literally)

From what I can translate from the website (in Mandarin btw), it seems that Canon cameras and lenses with slight defects go under the hammer! (i.e DESTROYED!)

i rather get the lenses and bodies to use it privately than them destroying thousand of dollars just because of some minor blemishes.

So what is better? sell it at a lower price and risk the company's reputation for selling inferior products, or to destroy it? Obviously most of us cannot afford some of the stuffs there...

why not sign a contract with canon saying that end users are responsible for those equipment and shan bitch about the faulty equipment?

i just feel that it is a waste of resources. the least they can do is to send back to HQ for recycling. not dump on a floor and start hammering.

It's not a waste (to the co in financial actual production terms). Guess who ends up paying for all that destroyed equipment anyways?

If users don't bitch about their equipment, there will be no Clubsnap.

the insurance company

Quote:
I guess you didn't read and just posted?
However, i doubt the authencity of the report. It might only be true for that particular plant.

it's not a waste. Canon has a reputation to protect.

they destroy and tell people, we feel heart pain, you pay and get something slightly defective? spam the forum, screw their customer service, shout at the shop who sold you the item, blog it and tell the whole world....see my point?

that article in itself is marketing liao anyway! hahaha

Firstly, destroying the equipment is for pulicity.. shows that Canon has strict QC and you are getting the best quality goods.

Secondly, any manufacturing company will have a defect tolerance level. Example, if 10% of a product tested is defective and the tolerance is 5%, then the ENTIRE batch will be destroyed. And yes, these may eventually find its way into the grey market through unauthorised channels, but may not be defective since it may fall in the 90% non-defect pieces.

I don't know about Canon's channels, but the Grey sets are probably parallel import sets with international warranties, so try to avoid non-warranty sets.

Is it incorporated into the cost of our goods? :P Looking at the whole process from beginning to end of the products, can get an idea why it costs a lot of money once it gets to us. But the thing that is not justified is why it costs more for the goods overseas than locally, I think it's more than to do with inflation differentials, inflation differentials, purchasing power parity and law of one price etc.... hor hor.... Just go to the cheaper place and buy! but then transportation costs... I better not go too off topic with that.. :P
