Why would you want to clean a perfectly ok lens and risk misalignment? If you're talking about the exposed surfaces for the front and back elements, I'd rather clean them myself.

The effort to go down there and the time taken is not worth it. How long does it take to DIY?

Hahah.. okie.. It's just that sometimes I don't quite trust other people to do a good job cleaning optics. I would not have a problem if it were Nikon Japan. I think most of the techs here (especially the younger ones) do not put much pride in their work.

actually in a way i agreed. once sent my lens for servicing to make full use of the warranty b4 it expired. end up, its not properly sealed and still not thoroughly clean. went back and demand them to clean it again. anyway partly my fault also , cos i nvr chk properly. hahaha

I've also heard people coming back with sensors dirtier than before and scratches on the focusing screens.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Good thing I'm not a young ones. I'm a young once.

A bit of advise for those who want to DIY, blow the dust first before wiping.
Wiping with dust might cause scratch on your lens.

Somehow, I feel that those techs/EAs/engineers who are fresh out of school nowadays still do not take their work seriously. But of course there are exceptions.
