Macro equipment questions?

Hi all..

i am thinking of getting the MSN-202 for my 17-70mm 72mm diameter lens. The universal adapter of the 202 does not fit onto my filter so i have to get a step down ring. Now the thing is, will the step down ring will cause the pictures to have a black circular border? If i get an extension tube instead will it solve the problem?

Next, for your query, each time you have a step down, there will be vignetting, just more or less...
