Another of my orchid jus bloomed.....so thought of putting up a couple of macros for CnC......many, many thanks in advance ........................

pic 2 has been nicely composed, but just a tad underexposed IMHO...

I agree that it is a bit under-exposed.....especially at the bottom part.....as i do not have an external speedlite yet, the only lighting used was a 18watt clip on light from the top front side..... metering was set in spot metering mode and aimed at the top part of the orchid......BTW thanks for the advise would try to improve once i get my speedlite.......

For plant/flower photo, the duller the color, the more you need to rely on lighting to enhance it (around and back) , else the centre of attention becomes lifeless. What we see from our eye cannot equate to the digital image

thats a really fierce orchid man.. anyways i'm a noob but.. imo i think pic 2 would look really great if from an angle slightly more right and focus more to the "fangs" and zoom in a bit more..

Shooting at very close distant to object need manual light since shadows appear. Try shooting in morning warm sunlight, use macro flash or perhaps 2-3 osram Fluorescent handheld touch; you may need to try diff color tone shots too. dSLR will have advantage of shooting at further distance using zoom, so lightning will be easier.
