What is gaffer tape? Is it like electrical tape?

And does it leave a sticky residue on the cams?

Gaffer tape is a low residue tape and it looks closer to the cloth tape, but leaves much lesser residue. Though we have used it in a different way than it was intended, it's still a popular choice in Singapore.

If you remove it promptly in about 3 months or so, it's not so bad, you can still clean off the lil bit of stickiness tat's left.
