I have a question regarding the H2.
Lets say i want to buy a filter (58mm). I have to attach the adapter right? So now the lens barrel is much longer. When i screw the filter onto the lens barrel, can i still attach the lens hood and the lens cap without removing the filter?

lens hood definitely can lens cap, can't remember, i think it's slightly different from dslr lens caps though so maybe cannot ask lunas (yongxin) here, he used h5 for quite long, same design though he has defected to nikon dslr hahaha for me, i left the adaptor on permanently protection, i guess |

However, in the setup, whether with lens barrel on/off, I do not used the Sony lens cap anymore but I utilised my Nikon 58mm centre-pinch cap over the barrel with lens hood on ..Cool.. Hope this helps..Happy shooting.. ![]()

So with the lens barrel + filter, the stock sony one cannot be attached? But others can? Is that what you are saying?
Where can you buy lens caps? I'm getting irritated with mine. The "fit" is not that good.

You can get it from SSC too. Just tell them you want to get a 58mm front lens cap will do.

but i don't want the same problem to occur. So i was wondering if there were any other alternatives. Like maybe a Nikon or Canon cap. Do they fit?
BTW SSC means Sony Service Centre right? How much the cap cost? Can't be too much right?

Yes, that's right. SSC = Sony Service Centre. Not sure how much it is, should be pretty cheap. The price will depends on the size as well. Yes, the caps will be able to be attached on the filter.

That nice to hear. I was afraid that everytime i wanted to keep the camera, must unscrew the filter.
Any recommendations on filters? Looking for a close-up filter. A +6 dioptre hopefully. This is rather trivial, but any lens cap to recommend?

Lens cap wise, I would suggest to get the Sony one since it's a Sony camera. Alternatively, you may want to call to check what's the price at SSC & compare to others in the shops like Cathay, MS Color or TCW.

TCW?
People seem to recommend Hoya. Where do i get hold of them? Photography shops like MS Color and CP? Is there a lens cap that is soft? ie. Not made of hard plastics like the stock cap. Something with a slightly rubbery feel.

I was thinking of having a UV filter on all the time now. I have this smudge on my lens. But i don't dare to clear for fear of scratching the lens.

or a good microfibre cloth, can get at any photographic shop or a lenspen all cost money, but give you peace of mind lens not so easy to scratch unless you monkey around with it without any due respect having a uv filter on is fine, i guess though i prefer not to - cuts off light no matter what might restrict certain things/ situations just remember to remove the uv filter when you are using other filters stacking usually not advisable, will give you vignetting and additional loss in optical quality - probably not visible at web quality but still |

Just asking. What is the use of getting more than one Lens pen?
Nice to hear that its convenient. Convenience is most important to me. I saw pics of the lens pen. Looks like it only removes dist. Nothing about smudges?

no, lenspen has two heads a brush head, which you use first, to brush away all stray dust (after blower, if you must) then the carbon compound head will clean off all smudges - oil, etc i find that it works very well but please, do not use it when the lens surface is wet you will spoil it in fact it is pretty safe, what i hear is that canon techs use a special version of the lenspen - sensorklear to clean the dslr sensor i have tried using it before on my dslr sensor, but i suspect mine is a bit too worn, some of the carbon compounds flaked off as to getting more than one, you can use once, leave the rest alone when you're done with that - lenspens have a lifespan/usage span you throw the one you've been using away and use a new one why not? if buying mnore than one saves you $$ |
