You sent it in to Canon, and now you're asking us what the charges were?

My 50mm F/1.4 had to replace the USM and it cost me $120 (parts+labour).

Typically $100. Service charge already $60

So IT MAY NOT BE WORTHWHILE repairing cheaper lenses such as 50mm 1.8 II, EF-S 18-55, 35-80, 28-80 II ......

Is a similar one can be gotten new for under $200 or a second hand for under $120, just get another one.

Would anyone repair a 2-year old Nokia entry level phone say a 6020? NO, just chuck it out.

I am sure they will have the minimum charge for checking it FIRST and if it requires repair they will ask you first if you would agree to it and if you don't you just pay for the checkup. Unless you waive that and told them to just repair it. If so....like the other guy wrote...why ask now since you already sent it in? In any case that is the cost of ownership and if you want to keep using the lens...this kind of money you need to spent will come sooner or later. It does not necessary mean you don't pay even if it is under warranty..if you broke in in a way that is not covered by the warranty..you will STILL have to cough out the cash to repair it.
