I believe that shutter count for most E system can last up to 50,000 times after which it is recommended to be changed.
Anyone knows how much would it cost to replace a shutter unit for our E systems in Singapore? Does it covers in the warranty? ![]() I'm using E510 and if some of us can quote for several E models, it would be a great !!

Heard that Canon shutter assemblies cost about S$200 to replace. Not sure if this is for the entry, advanced-amateur, or pro models of their DSLRs.
At my rate of usage of the E-510, I'll probably need to have it replaced in about 12 months (usage rate = 10k shots per 3 months). Note that 50k is probably an average time to failure rating. You could have body from a batch that is less robust (fails earlier than 50k shots) or something else breaks first. |

50K is the point where you can asked for free replacement if it breaks before that. Not sure if that apply only within warranty.
In general it should not breaks even after 60K or more, else the manufacturer will be in trouble replacing FREE shutter. Only problem is the shutter speed will not be as accurate as expected as within the 50K. |

Actually, the number is minimum shutter count before failure... this means your camera can go up to 80k maybe? I am past my recommended count by quite a few thousand liao... still running fine...

Where do you find these shutter count numbers from Olympus?
I find nothing in my warranty card or manuals. Btw I'm at around 20k on my E510 ![]() |

actually this thread is good, because it enforces something that I have always been preaching... unless you shoot sports, you don't have to be a machine gunner... there is a price to pay for being one... I have seen people shooting portraiture stuff and machine gunning away... crazy... machine gunning never guarantee one getting the shot... and the sorting afterwards... insane...

Power on your E-510 and open it's card slot door and leave it open. Press Menu+OK. You should see "Olympus E-510" displayed on the LCD now. Press each button once in this sequence: up, down, left, right. Press the shutter butter all the way down. Then press the right button to see "Page 2" of the 'secret' menu and your shutter count is the "R" row (first one on top) |

Another crazy Swede here. Welcome! Regarding the manual, I don't think you can find it anywhere. At least not in the E-500 manual.

For the record, the E-1 (and presumably the next Pro-E) shutter life is 150,000.
You have to think of this like a car, 1 year or 50,000 clicks...but while this is within the warranty period there is nothing that says it will fail right after 50,000 after the warranty period...I had a friend who had a VW Jetta diesel with over 700,000km on it. |

hmmm. I think the E510 is quite new and probably, no one has never get a shutter replacement before. But who knows someone has done it for the other older models. Could be of the same pricing.
Bought mine from HN. total got 5yrs warranty. Pay extra. hahaha. If really the shutter fails me during that period, ill see if can get a free replacement thru HN. See how true HN warranty is.

Thanks, but I don't think I will find any Olympus specifications in there
![]() Exactly, it's not stated. So the warranty should not be like a car with mileage limits. Btw, I'm no machine gunner. I just shoot a lot (have to do the sorting anyway though ) And if the shutter box fails, so be it. |
