Just about to buy my first DSLR, have used SLR's before but none of the old lenses will be any use so which do i go for, the Nikon D40x, the Canon EOS400D or the Olympus E500/E410??
I've read lots of reviews and they all seem pretty much the same so any advice or people who've used them would be great. Thanks. |

For your Olympus option.. how about E-510 instead of E-500.

I agree with harmony,been using E-510 for a weeks now,never failed me,but E-500 is good as well,if you're on a tight budget,I've used both before,both are good to use,

Among 3 of them, i wont pick up D40x unless im really on very tight budget~ I rather choose D80...
Among 3 of them, i have picked up 400D... But i think, it's up to individual... Just go down to the shop and have a feel of the camera... Due to my small hands, i prefer my 400D's grip over D70s (play with my friend's).

Go for either the Nikon or the Canon... and if Nikon, go for the D70 or D80. Why not check out the B&S as there are some good deals. The Canon or Nikon selection is so that you do not end up stuck when you want to move further with photography.

Canon and Nikon got better resale opportunity...Much more lens selection too. Oh ya. but i heard 40x got less choice compared to others due to the mounting.
Go for 2nd hand if you just starting out and don't have big budget in case you bought and regretted your choice, won't lose much. I regretted not doing this and went for brand new set. Oly is not bad though...but the crop factor is 2 rather than 1.6 compared to Canon and Nikon. Good if you like zoom cos it doubles your lens but tough if you want to do wide angle. My 2 cents...

How come you never considered the multiple award winning Pentax K10D? - beats the 3 cameras you've listed hands down and pretty affordable too.
