I had applied an USM of sharpening at 85%, radius at 1 pixel and threshold at 4 once to the picture. I also realised I had turned off the in-camera sharpening but since I am taking RAW, I don't think that will have any effect on the picture, will it?

This outing has also make me realised close to 95% of the 130+ shots I've taken falls within the 18-50mm range and 81% falls within the 18-35mm range. Looks like the 50-200 range is kinda wasted and more excuses to get the 17-35

Which camera? Nikon or Canon? If its canon, do the raw sharpening in DPP. Then take it to photoshop.

Taken with Nikon D80. I imported the RAW files into LightRoom then edit in Photoshop. All adjustments were made with Photoshop.

I think it may also be possible that I should stop down to f/8 or f/11 where the 18-200 is usually sharpest at.

Thats what they say.. sharp at F/8 - F/11.. but it varies sometimes.

Ok here is something you can try.. not a scientific method.. but a quick way to know where ur lens is sharp.

Shoot something thin and straight like a stick etc at the MFD of the lens (lookup the minimum focus distance printed on the lens). Do it at 200mm with tripod. Check the shot with different aperture. Then u can compare pic to see which shot is sharp. Memorise that range

Thanks for the tip, Harish I have been wanting to find out the sharp spot myself but do not know how to begin.

Landscapes shots uses wide angle range... unless you are doing close up. But 18-200 is a very gd travel lens.
