Anyone got the timing for the Black Knight performance? Based on what I know, the performance should be around noon time when Changi Airport has it's lull period for the airspace clearance.
I love big car, big house, big lenses, but small apertures.

    Hey
I was hoping someone could tell me what gear I should bring for the air performance, cos the planes and helicopters should be high above our heads right? And also if anyone can confirm if the show has any restrictions to the gear we bring. Thanks

No restrictions to gear. It's only the airforce open house that restricts use of equipment.

OKie, I missed that. So, 1215hr to 1345hr. That is gonna to be quite a difficult time to shoot with the sun overhead. If the sky is overcast, it's even worst, with very bright clouds in the background. Consider this very challenging to shoot.

Well, based on my limited knowledge, the minimum focal length of lens has got to be 300mm, preferably a zoom so that you can zoom out a bit for the Black Knights formation and then, zoom in for the individual planes or choppers.

As the action would be pretty fast, the AF for your lens has got to be fast enough to focus, track and fire off.

In the past Airshow and the last Airforce open house, I used a zoom up to 300mm - got to crop quite a bit. Better to crop than not able to keep the object within the VF.
I will try to see if I can post an example of the kind of result I got.

IMO, tripod or monopod are of not much use as your movement would be too restricted. Dunno if others would agree with me.

Thanks man...got any idea of how much a lens like that would cost... first hand that is... uhm...cant i use MF? No need for AF for my lens to be that fast if using AF..Or would it be very difficult to use MF or is it not possible to use MF on lens like those?

Oh yeah, when they say olympus 300mm f2.8.. what does f2.8 mean?
    Thanks

Thanks Bro xtemujin for the info. Any idea where is a good location to park and where to shoot the flying performance? I would prefer to go during the practice sessions which are less crowded.

No worries bro, I've no idea where is a good vantage point to take the photos as this is a new location.

This is the direct website link to the Singapore Airshow public visitor's guide. It is still not yet updated.

No longer can get the vantage (central) view without being inside the exhibition.

From the site layout, the waterfront facing the flying display is in the exhibition area. However, may still get a good view of the aircrafts from the car park and the side when the aircraft turn into or out from the display zone.

Tickets for public days are now on sale on the website and at SingPost outlets... for more info, check out today's Straits Times Home section...

for online purchase, you need a printer to print the tickets out yourself... and word of advice: when inputting punctuation in the provided spaces on the webform, the punctuation marks seem to disappear after you click somewhere else to continue inputting information, eg. #12-34 becomes 1234... what seems to work to get around this problem is to input the punctuation mark twice, eg. ##12--34, which would become #12-34... abit silly
