Default How to do Slow Synch Flash with E510?

Just saw this thread and was wondering if there is a simple way to set this up on the E510? Has any experience with this using this camera?

Thanks!

in any of the main shooting modes, press ok, highlight the flash icon, then turn the dial till you get the flash symbol with the word 'slow'.

please rtfm. that'll make other things even simpler.

The Olympus Manual does explain the slow sync flash function pretty well, so please kindly read it. There are different modes of slow sync flashing, and you should practise a little on your own to really understand why you use the different functions. Cheers.

For the person too lazy to read the manual, you can do first curtain slow sync (flash fires at the beginning of the exposure) with every flash mode but two ("no flash" and SLOW2)...but of course you have to be in S or M modes to do slow sync.

SLOW2 is for second curtain sync (before the end of exposure)...note that with the internal or Oly TTL flash there will be a preflash before the beginning of exposure to set white balance.

I DID rtfm, FYI.

Just wondering how to do it right. The manual does not suggest anything other than explain the flash functions. I wanted to see if I could get some initial pointers on how to get started. Thanks to some helpful comments, I figured that I had to shoot in S. But what shutter speed should be used? Is there a guideline or izzit entirely subjective?

And that's the whole purpose of the manual, to explain what the controls do and where they are...it's like a car manual in that it doesn't teach you how to drive.

But like a lot of things in photography there is no right or wrong answer, experiment to see what you like. Each slow sync image is dependent on the amount of ambient light there is, and what effect you are trying to acheive!

Anyway, this site may give you a starting point with a link to examples:

Personally I suggest first experimenting with long exposures without the flash, and once you're comfortable with that add the flash effect. Here's some of my recent long exposures for inspiration (I purposely moved the camera while the shutter was open):
