I actually thought it's more like the 100-300mm APO lens upgrade to SSM version, but does it really worth a "G" title???

Canon does the same for some of the "L" range. It's about time SONY cover this segment. The 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM I think trying to replace both the 100-300 APO and the 70-200 f4. Looks like a good travel companion together with the CZ 16-80.

70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM ? Think I will still prefer the legendary beercan which is at constant F4. Anyway, I dun think this lens will be cheap since it's labelled 'G'

SSM G yet smaller aperture. i wonder how are they going to price and pitch this one. no diff over the traditional 70-300s, except its G and SSM.

I wonder what's the pricing c.f. to the similar canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM / nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6 AF-S VR
Now we can really see if in-body stabilization is REALLY going to result in cheaper lenses! I sure hope it does....eventually may see it in canon / nikon! |

The glass is G series glass, but consider the size and the focal length factors, the amount of light is limited. Its not neccessary to be f/2.8 all the time while its good to have in the past where there's no AS available. I'm sure this lens provides the G glass quality as the rest of the G lenses. It'll be interesting to compare G vs Z-eiss.

i think this is just the normal 75-300 kit lens with G coating and SSM... same like what Canon and Nikon do with their lenses with USM & AF-S. but G?
y dun have G for 50f1.4, 16mm fisheye?
