Think about what kind of returns you can offer them and convince them of the benifits. Show them what you are capable of, thrash your entire portfolio into their faces; of cos make sure the pics are wow... haha then throw them your statement of demand, "We can do this, if only... if only we had he money...."

It is also important to have a teacher I/C that is willing to fight for your cause. If your teacher is like.. couldn't really be bothered, they u shud just pray that a new teacher will come in. If your teacher is on your side, half the battle is already won.

Alternatively, if funding is a problem, there are many way to earn from the student population. Sometimes it's better to stand on your own two feet than whine and beg for funding from school. School funding is often than not, miserable, especially if its a not a 'recognized' CCA. Hence the need for supplementary funding from an external source is crucial for the club to expand.

Lastly, you have to fix up your members. They have to be willing to work hard and rooted for the cause because funding is only going to flow in when they start producing the quality work.
Very well said. My teacher though is tired of running photog for 7 years on. We did bring it up to the principal, and she commented that since "we" are so enthu, we should buy our own cameras and shoot sch events. (I've already burnt 14k of my 20k shutter count on sch events and I put it as practice for events only, casue I seem to learn more shooting and psing what I really like as seen on my gallery) Even the best photographer of the batch before me has complained that we are using our own shutter count and its unfair to have to use our cams just because theres not enough to go around. Discounting for our own shutter counts, I already think who in their right mind will go sink S$1.5-2k on a DSLR when they know nuts.

The most difficult part is getting the good members. We got one J1 this year who actually appeal in on photog. After 5 mths, she told me that she had though it was not so bad and that it may have been a regrettable decision. I told her, should have gone to NYJC. Although it might seem fun at first to be the better photographer or the only one at that, you'll be pushed all the work when no one does it. I can say it is fair enough for me to claim that I did alot of the operations during my term. From the project manager to the vice-president's duties like cleaning dark rm and managing cameras to managing every picture on hard disk. The other person who did probably just as much work was the Chief photograher who had to manage the duties and members. (Its a headache when people give all sorts of reasoning or say yes to an event but just never turn up for it) It was very fun for me to do all the stuff since I was enthu enough. But in retrospect, I have failed as a president in getting even the exco to do anything despite the constant messaging etc... they just avoid work or just come to the dark room to play online games!! Some will see me as a poor fella who did so much, others will see me as the one who kapo all the work, but even the teacher got fed up with the members' attitude after all the threathening etc... Looking at it now, I should not be bothering with it anymore. Its up to the J1s now. I would come back to help out next year if I had the time for the love of photography and this alone.

I could elaborate alot more, but it will become very much an OT and not wise to be announcing things to everyone, but good for one on one chit-chat between friends.

Lets hope we can get an outing planned out. I am naturally pessimestic but I have a good optimistic feeling on this one.

Essentially SAJC placed the prelim half before this week's hoildays and the other half after. So I am technically in the middle of it and it will end by 18 September, but it would only be less than 6 weeks to the A levels. You guys can plan one for after prelims and one in Nov/Dec and see who attend.

I understand how you feel, cause i felt the same at one point too... It is a feat in itself to get members to work and your exco to do their job, but this is a really good test to show yourself what work and what doesn't work in human resource management. I can safely say, threatening doesn't work, in fact, it backfires horribly. Just look at Odex..lols.. If you want people to work, you got to give them a reason to work for it. You also gotta earn their respect. You've gotta prove to your people that you know what you are doing and that you are serious about it. and it also takes a lot of time and bonding...

As for the equipment, being the 'pinoeers' of your cca, must scarifice a bit of shutter count la..^^ use your shutter count to help fund your club's first DSLR... then engrave your name on it to let everyone one who uses it aft u have left know that the camera was bought through your hard work...hehe

all ur school have photography clubs. sad to say, my school has one & only 1 person who plays DSLR which is me.. that's the reason, never get into neighbourhood schools.

actually my school does have ava club which do some photographys for the school, but sadly, i'm from It club, so better not try anything stupid. Later teacher not happy. nothing nice to shoot in school also.

i'm sure. lols. u'll be bored if u were to shoot in my school. Darkroom? u mean for processing pictures.
yeah, i only brought my camera to shoot once to shoot my one and only favourite teacher in school..after that school asked me to take school concert, events, school D&D, but never had i agreed to one, for the time spent i could earn some cash.

Hm, technology goes by very fast.

NYJC photog still has one dry cabi of film equipment that we don't touch... and the other for all the dSLRs and lenses we use.

We have stuck with canon for a very long time already, seeing as the film kit is also EOS.

One of the reasons why they just don't get rid of the old cameras and stuff is becasue the teacher needs to do lots of paperwork in condemning the things. SAJC has film cameras like some Pentax, Yashica etc.. that goes all the way to the 1960s. But its just sitting in those silica gel boxes without silica gel. I had wanted to take it of their hands though.
