Currently using those stick on screen protectors? But do Oly have those plastic protectors that Canon have for their cameras?

If you're refering to those "clip-on" hard-plastic protectors then no.
There doesn't seem to be any features on the camera body to support a clip-on protector anyway. But stick-on film type protectors are readily available though. (Get the ones that "cling" on via a static charge instead on those that rely on adhesives) (About 10 dollars for the better, Japan made films) They do a decent job of protecting the LCD from scratches but not hard, direct impacts.

Those plastic films are good enough. The LCD panels are pretty tough these days, so you don't have to worry too much, unless you have a habit of smashing a hammer into the LCD screen... then I have nothing to say...
Those hard plastic covers are actually quite crap... because they scratch easily... so you have to paste another film over it... so the total cost goes up! So really, you are better off with a good quality plastic LCD film.

I used plastic a film protector for about one or two days when the camera was new. LCD image quality got just too degraded with the film, so I never used one after that. I used the most expensive, and the best one I could find. No scartches so far, after more than a year, but I hate to degrade the bright display, so I will take my chances. Must be even worse for the LV type cameras, since there you can use the display for focusing. I think if you handle the camera with care, use proper camera bag and don't let it swing freely on your shoulder or around your neck, the worse that can happen is finger and nose prints. Those can easily cleaned with a piece of microfibre cloth.
In my opinion, screen protectors are waste of money.

I haven't even peeled away the factory's protective layer that my E-510's screen came with when I got it more two months ago... but when it does eventually fall off (I taped it to the E-510's body), I'll probably just use those S$2/piece 7-inch screen protector sheets (cut down to 2.5-inch screen size) that Daiso sells. I only needed 1 change of the Daiso screen protector in the 1 year+ I was using it on my E-330. Pretty good cheap stuff.

Just got my e-510. Wanted to get the clip-on plastic LCD protector as well... Heard TK foto have it, anyone know about it? BTW, for those film protector, advisable to get 2.5" or 3"? Bcox 2.5" film protector will not cover the black shadow side. But not sure whether 3" is too big for that.

Dun get the 2.5 as it is a hair too small. You need the get the next size up. Not sure if it is the 2.7 or something.
I removed the original film that came with it cos it was degrading LCD quality. I find that the good japanese plastic film that hangs on by static does quite a good job for me, and does not appear to degrade image quality on the LCD. But just hand itchy and wanna get the hard plastic one now.

i personally swear by this brand of screen protector called "martin fields". have been using it for my phones, cameras, ipods & watever has a scratch-able screen tat needs to be protected.
however, be prepared to pay a premium for it. easily S$10+ to S$20. i think the shop tat retails it in sg is called DOML or something like tat. should have shifted to somewhere near chinatown point iirc. anyway juz google for "martin fields" n i think u can find the necessary info. ![]() *edit: oh btw, its a static stick-on flim, not a hard plastic. Recently i ordered 2pcs of "invisible shield" online and was shipped to me 2days ago. It was highly recommended by a US forum. Cost USD11.95 per pcs excluding shipment. I ordered 2pcs in case i didn't make it the first attempt. But after reading the guide provided inside the box, i kind of too lazy to stick it. LOL
PS: to find out more about this "shield".. click here. |

Get screen protector for Dopod 818pro which has same screen size as the screen (including black margin).

You could probably get a Delkin pop-up shade for it.

For me, the best screen protector i had is the EXiM SPUC from Ebay. I've never seen one that is so invisible... as though the screen doesn't have any screen protector, firm & easy to apply, yet very thin, almost invisible. After putting it on. 4 out of 5 person glanced the camera & said there isn't a screen protector on the LCD screen. It doesn't peel or comes off, should last a very long time too. Cost around S$20. I usually buy it for my cameras LCD screen.

I recommend Martin Fields. They are more pricy but you get what you pay, and they have the exact size for E-510. If you buy directly from DOML's office in Chinatown, they will apply the overlay for you FOC.
