Dear All, Need some advice on how I should use the Oly to shoot in manual mode.
With so many things to focus on, what should I remember if I am using manual mode? I tried it today and I realized that the thumb wheel adjusts the shutter speed. In that case, I only need to worry about shutter speed and not the aperture right? Now it sounds like S mode, but when I flicked the 510 to M, that was what it did. Also, I realized that by adjusting the shutter speed, I can see the EV stop on the right. So that helps me choose the appropriate shutter speed. Can someone give me some pointers on Manual mode shooting? |

"M" mode allows you to set both "A"perture and "S"hutter speed to the desired value.
Not sure about E510, in "M" mode, the "+/-" button on my E300 allows me to toggle between "A" & "S" if I want to change the values accordingly. Cheers..

It's not easy.
The E-1 has a dial on top and a dial on the back and you can switch aperture and shutter speed with one or the other. I don't do it often enough to remember. It's much easier to use aperture or shutter priority modes as you only manipulate one value and the other is calculated. One value, one dial. |

Actually in the camera's menu, u can either set the manual mode to A or S, then the other is using the +/- button for the other. its up to your preference.
You have to get used to it and know where you should meter your subject that is the main thing, oh yeah, you also need to be fast to change the settings if not your model will be posing there for a long time. ![]() Manual mode really lets u set your lightings as creative as you want. Maybe you would like to try shooting a few shots in A or S then a few in M, you will see the difference. ![]() |

Edit: Of course, I think manual mode should be used for panorama as well, that supposed to be consistent exposure environment so that when stiching, images are exposed similarily. I am not a pano expert, but that is what I think it should be done.
