    400 is a good budget.. My preferences (ranked on the basis of product quality, price and after sales support)

    1) HP w1907 19’’ Wide LCD Monitor = $399
    19" TFT monitor; 300 nits brightness; 1000:1 contrast ratio; 0.285 mm pixel pitch; 1440 x 900 @ 60Hz max; Digital (DVI-D) and Analog (15-pin D-sub VGA)

    2) Philips WS8FB 20.1" DVI LCD = $425 (slightly higher for extra 1", but has the smallest pixel pitch)
    1680 x 1050 pixels, pixel pitch 0.258 mm, Brightness : 300 cd/m, Contrast ratio (typical) : 800:1

    2) Samsung 932B 19" LCD Monitor - $359
    Pixel Pitch(mm) 0.294, Brightness 300cd/m Contrast Ratio(typ.) 700:1 (DC 2000:1)

    I would avoid dell due to poor after sales support YMMV

    Thanks for your recommendation. Will find out more on the Philips WS8FB. Any other 20" that's good? How about LG? Thanks again.

    Is the Dell 22 inch monitor really that bad?

    Which one has the best color reproduction for photo editing?

    1. Acer AL2416WB (24 inch) - $599
    2. BenQ FP222W (22 inch) - $399
    3. Samsung 2232GW (22 inch) - $549
    4. Dell E228WFP (22 inch) - $399
    5. Asus MW221U (22 inch) - $459

    Seems like the acer 24 inch a better deal.

    Acer AL2416WB

    Comes with free DVI cable and 2GB SD Duo (connects directly to a USB port) card.
    Specs: 24-inch widescreen LCD; 1,920 x 1,200 resolution; 1000:1 contrast ratio; 400cd/m2 brightness; 5ms response time; supports DVI.

    Is the specs good?

    not too sure the current LG/Samsung is turely 8 bits.

    24": Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC, 1920x1200 (16:10)

    * Panel: WG S-PVA (Samsung LTM240CS01); true 8-bit, 16.7M colors
    * Image Delay (rt+lag, estimated): High (40 ms)
    * Specifications: Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC
    * HDCP Compliant: Yes
    * Notes: This monitor does have some issues with ghosting as discussed in this thread. The response time control (overdrive) is poorly controlled causing bright halos around moving objects. It may not occur as badly with different settings and the amount of ghosting depends on the color transition involved. If you're a big gamer you should probably avoid this monitor or wait for a new revision. The effects aren't as annoying for general usage or watching movies.

    I am using 24": Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC, 1920x1200 (16:10). So far no problem for me. I am not a gamer & only it use for photo editing. Very Accurate color/gamma curve.

    I think bro AJ23 have gotten a lemon from dell.

    If can affort, apple 23 " LCD will be my no.1 choice instead.
