Default If Panasonic incorporates a bigger sensor...

    into their prosumer series....

would the FZ series be able to put up a gd fight against entry DSLRs? Considering the range offered at the expense of quality

if the sensor size increase, the lens will not fit...
that is why dSLR/SLR lens are so huge (f2.8)

nope, they can get any sensor size they want, but the bigger it is the more compromise it will be on the lens.. eg. no more constant f2.8 on 12x zoom... etc

    dream prosumer for me

    leica lense
    pana build
    pana mega O.I.S
    fuji super CCD latest gen
    fuji user controls
    AA batts

    12X zoom below $800

hahah but its a dream though

the main drawback for the pana is their noise i believe, one reason why i am getting a 6500 instead.but doesnt deter the fact that their prosumers are

They have to improve on the shutter lag if they are to go anywhere near a DSLR. The lag was one big factor why I switched from FZ50 to D80.

Why does FZ18 uses a larger lens but still same old small sensor?

I used to think a large sensor demands large lens..

where did you get the fact that fz18 use a larger lens? even if it is larger, by how much? 1mm?
yes talking about physical diameter and not focal length

Dslr aside. pana has the biggest sensor in the compact range.

    Their cult camera LX2 sensor's - 1/1.65 ". Check Canon's G9 or even Nikon 5000 theirs is only 1/1.8 ".

Fuji cameras 1/1.6 " difference is minor but than compare the body size.
