I think the wait till end of the year will be 'fruitful'........ by then, D200 in the retail and the second market will be HOT!!! Come to think of it, if Nikon has already discountinued with D200 production, does it mean that to get it repair in future will be troublesome? If support fo D200 is not going to be there, then I think better to go for the D300 liao...... unless price drops like a bomb!!!

By end of the end, you will be wonderig if you should get D300. No end to wait. Just get it if you have the means. You only live once.

Normally, the end of support life should be at least a few years after production stops. Nikon still support D70 so don't worry about D200.

Back to the topic, if you can wait, WAIT (depending on your opportunity cost). D300 seems to be a MUCH BETTER upgrade viz-a-viz earlier upgrades. On paper, at least.

If you have no SLR now, there's no better time to get a D200 or the D2X.

For me,they are nice-to-haves. I'm quite satisfied with D200 11 focusing pts. I seldom use the high iso, so no big issue there. But these features may be important to others depending on their needs.
