Try looking for a used unit at CS B&S and Yahoo Auctions. I bought my RM1 here quite cheaply and got a RM2 at Yahoo Auctions for just $6.

Saw one here for sale, maybe you can try to bargain: http://sg.auctions.yahoo.com/sg/i:BN...mera:244098719

No. The RM-1 is a one button type tiny remote. In fact, just yesterday I got one free from a friend of mine. His old Oly P&S gave up, so I got his brand new (never used) RM-2. It works nice for normal shooting, but no bulb.

Default Make your own RM1

For those who are handy:

You can do as I did, make your own. All five buttons work just fine, like in a real RM-1.

There are knock offs, so if you want the original make sure it is the original. I think costs around USD20 each or something. It works perfect on the E510 which is a good thing cos I did not need to get a new one. Instantaneous shutter release when I press it. No longer the 1 sec delay which I had on the 5050. Plenty of RM1s on ebay and Amazon. I consider it an essential item to own although you may not actually use it that often.

I suspect you are right. If one is ready to pay for it, there is no point in getting a cheap one. The original is cheap enough.

What you mean by instantaneous release? My E-500 first lits the red LED in front and something between 0.5-1 sec later the shutter fires. That in M mode and MF, 0 sec delay on the remote. Is the E-510 really immediate?

Yes, it can be immediate on the E510. There is an option for 0 sec and 1 sec. I was so happy about it!!!! Although I prob will not use that much.

I think the word "immediate" is a bit up to the user's interpretation. IR remote is a serial device, it starts to send when you press the button. It takes time to pulse out the command. The camera acts first after the last bit exited the remote and entered the camera. So, it can not be immediate, except maybe compared to the 5050.

Even in the E-500, there is a choise of 0 or 2 sec. delay, but 0 actually means about 1 second due to the time the remote needs, not the camera. 2 seconds means 2 seconds. Tested with my DIY and RM-2 also, which is the same as RM-1 but only has one button.

Ok lar...if you wanna be so academic and split hairs...then 0 sec is not 1 sec. It is way much faster. I could time it again and get back to you. But significantly faster than the RM-1 and the Oly5050.

If I remember correctly, it is like press and it shoots.

Just the simplest one, one single button, no bulb of course, just fire. I don't know why Oly bothered to make them at all, I got mine free, so it is very nice and convenient. Small, flat thing, fits easily anywhere, but it can also be lost easier since there is no strap attachments.

Just to explain further to operate bulb mode you need the T and W buttons...as the RM-2 only has a single shutter release button and no other buttons, you can't do bulb mode with it.
