    Default Can headphones be repaired?

    Hi

    My Sennheiser headphones is having problems; sometimes got sound (1 sided), sometimes totally no sound. I thought the wires are torn in the stereo jack. So i sort off rip it apart to take a look inside.

    It is not a simple 2 wire connection, there are 3 wires as shown in the pic. However, all the wires are still intact. Any idea if i get it fix? (please no stupid jokes )

    Check the wires to the earphones and also check the female jacks. Spray some contact cleaner, NOT WD40.

    Bring it down Sennheiser services centre to let them repair it for you. I did that when my PMX200 headset's jack had a problem with my ipod and I started fiddling around with it till I torn one of the wires after months of jigging it about. Cost $25 for them to get it done was what they quoted me recently. I have yet to bring it down to them as it is far away from my home and work place.

    honestly it is a very simple DIY job.

    this is a 1/4 inch TRS male jack.
    Just go SLS or SLT to get a new jack & solder.

    Red = +
    Blue = -
    Copper = common ground

    If it is the higher end HD580, HD595, HD600, etc... you can go to Hung Bros at Sim Lim and buy the wire, which can be plugged into your headphones.

    Bring back to Senn to get it done or try LHS electronincs at lv 2 Sim Lim Tower. Just buy a new 3.5mm plug from them and ask them to terminate it for u. About $8-$10. If I will u, i'll get the Neutrik L plugs.

    Eh.. This is headphone, not TRS balanced. Plus, it may not be a problem with the plug.

    I've called LHS Electronics, they say they can have a look at it first then will fixed/solder for me if they can. It cost about $10.

    Yes they have to see the extend of the damage and try to salvage it but i think this little problem will not bother them. But I think u have to buy a new plug. Discuss with them then u there.

    they meaning LHS?

    It is actually quite easy to solder.
    They just gave an excuse because they avoid doing cable repair.
    Their concentrate on supplying for projects involving kilometers of cables.

    usually soldering is provided FOC only when one purchases in huge quantity for projects.
