And the same for people who are too optimistic.

My opinion is that if someone is new to the stock market or not invested, stay out. If that person is invested, just ride along and start looking for exit points and figure out some defensive strategies. For speculators, it really does not matter if the market is up or down doesn't it?

That's the beauty of the world, isn't it? We need a balance in the market. Pessimists vs Optimists so that market can reach equilibrium.

    Sell on news. Standard phenomenon.

Rising oil price is also partly due to speculation. We must all understand that big timers have access to all kind of markets unlike normal retail investors who are not so sophisticated and lack of information, etc. These big timers sell stocks but make piles from oil futures, etc. The law of jungle at work.

personally , i never invest in foreign markets. Local market already not much time to monitor.

anyway.. holding on to my defensive stocks. F&N results will be released on 13th Nov. Time to collect back those "soft drinks" money.

I just read that Alibaba.com has a PE ratio of 300 times of it's 2007 profits. That Jack Ma must be one hell of a happy man.

Here is what Alibaba was in 2000.

    A bit about his philosophy.

and this guy says he first touched computers only in 1995.

It doesn't matter. It is fact known to all investors. But so? The stock price still cheong like nobody business. This what I called irrational expectation.

HK bourse is different from Singapore. There are more liquidity. Thus more punters, traders, and so forth.

And to add to that, the only reason why it has gone up so much in the last 2 months is due to plans to open up HK to mainland investors, which is also the reason for it falling so much yesterday when it was suggested that the plans might be delayed.

I was more interested in knowing that this guy only touched a computer in 1995. I don't know what he did to make the company so successful, but it sure is one good story.

There is another story, but more for gamblers. This goes back to 1987, when settlement took days and there wasn't daily MTM of positions (someone needs to confirm if this was true). When the crash happened, some locals (don't know how many) lost so much money that they knew that they would be bankrupt. So they decided to go out with a bang and went against the market, bought Nikkei index futures to be precise like there was no tomorrow. The rest is history, the Nikkei index went up for the next 2 days when everything else fell, before these guys squared their positions. From potential bankrupts, they became millionaires. Not sure if this is true, if you know about it, you might want to share what you know.

Look at how bullish he is with China's economy, and he isn't even expecting any financial crisis to materialise there in the near future. I just wonder what he is thinking of in terms of currencies.
