Default Err replication?

Caught this on another forum by a user:

I found some threads in this forum about the Err message the Dimage 7Hi shows after starting up. Different reasons and suggestions are given...

Actually, I found that the Err is pretty easy to reproduce with my 7Hi:

Point the front side to a relatively dark area.
Power it on, choose the Record mode.
Wait any number of seconds, the camera will work perfectly.
Now, quickly turn the lens towards a much brighter area that should be above you, so that you hold the camera in an up tilt of 10-30 degrees.
Mine powers off and shows the "Err" message after 1 second since it appears to be overwhelmed by the light. The light situation in my case is a cloudy but bright sky above me.

Anyone got it?

As in got the error?

I got an error message this morning with the 7hi. Cant actually recall though how I got it to that stage.

After that, I just had to turn the control knob to OFF and then to play again and it worked fine after that.

I'm, getting the err message more and more often on my Hi and 1G microdrive.
I'm not sure what to do, I have tried to change to the 16Mb lexar card that came with the camera a few times and NEVER gotten the err message, but 16Mb is not an option. Not sure what to do, is it a card problem or something else??
When camera was new I got the err message 2-3 times over 3-4 months, and all I did was power off, power on again and it would work.
Now I hav egotten it each time I have used the camera (outside) the last 2-3 weekends, and when I try to power off/on it does not help. I hav eto try to start the camera 5-10 times until it works. It is very annoying.
Talked to AP and they said, have no idea call minolta. Never tried to do that, do not want to be without the camera for 1-2 months o get it back with no action taken.

Xin, i know what u mean.. but if u never kenna Err before.. then dun try lor.. when kenna already, test and see how it goes, i guess?

Stefan, hmm, try checking w/ Minolta SG and see if they got any ideas how to fix it? if they do, just pass it to them and be cameraless for a few weeks.. better to have Err when the moment appears!

Tried w/ a 256mb CF? or something? 512mb?

Default ERR Message

I got the ERR immediately after i started using it in Jan this year.

Sent it in for servicing and thought that the problem will be fixed but after 1 and a half month, i got it back, the ERR problem occurs even more often!!

Thinking that it was a CF card problem, I got a different brand CF card. Although the ERR occurs less,i still get it.

I can't afford to wait for another month while minolta takes their time to service it!!

Hey guys....

I took the camera back to Minolta....they were nice enough to change the internal of the camera for me. External remains. There is no firmware upgrade at the moment (I think).

Bad news is ERR stays.....Happens when i shot areas that are high contrast. Example , in the shade (low light) and shooting something that's bright.

I've given up on trying to fix the ERR problem and just stick to using the camera and pray hard that it doesn't fail me when the "moment"arises.

Let me know if anyone manages to fix it. Keeping my fingers crossed......

Ydanz....the only difference reason i can think of is you're using Microdrive and I'm using CF.......

The second servicing took 1 day as I needed my camera the next day as I going on a trip.............

No Err problems for me too.

How do the rubber parts keep falling apart? I don't use the rubber parts but take out the CF card when I do transfer.

Overheating is quite an irritating problem on my 7Hi. i don't have a solution, but my strategy is to carry an extra CF card in my pocket. I'll take out the heated one and while waiting for it to cool down, I pop in the other card.

I've recently bought one of those small computer chip heat-sinks and carry it around in my pocket. It at least helps to dissipate the heat of the card faster.

Default 'Sudden Death' (similar problem with Olympus C2100UZ?)

Mine is no longer the 'Err' problem, it has now become a 'sudden death' problem.

I was using it yesterday evening taking macro shots of a coin using a +1 and +3 filter stacked together. Then, in the midst of taking a shot, the EVF suddently went blank. The CF card reading light, however, was still lighted and blinking. It didnt stop until I opened the batteries compartment. I was using Ridata 20x card when taking those pictures.

I changed the batteries and switched the camera on and the problem persisted: the camera didnt boot-up. Then, I changed the CF card with the supplied Lexar CF card and again the CF card reading light kept on blinking.

When I tried switching the camera on again this morning, there was a faint buzzing sound that was emiited and still the camera would not wake up.

This 7hi is going to visit the Minolta service centre immediately. Just to share my experience. Thankfully, the camera is still under warranty. (BTW, can I send the camera to Minolta's office at Funan?)
