You lost your card BUT it wasn't from a professional standpoint.

Only last week I lost 6 GBs worth of RAW files from a photoshoot that was supposed to go into one of SPH's major magazines. You can imagine the horror... then i really felt like
Just make sure u dun lose the 12 GB worth of flying cars this weekend!

Anyway.. thx guys and gals for all your concers, after a night sleeping over it.. i'm feeling better already. Of coz i'm still hoping the card will pop out from somewhere.. Praying hard..

    lesson to learn here is:
avoid changing card if u can help it. use SDHC (at least 4G maybe) or always diligently transfer files after every photoshoot.
Or shoot JPEGS instead. I top over 800 JPEGS in a 2GB card.

I know how you feel-I was a second shooter for wedding, took some photos they specifically requested (first shooter was scouting around for "senic & quiet places" to shoot in botanic garden...

Few days after event, tried to contact 1st shooter so we can combine pic and pass to them =.= No contact with him for 3 weeks. Felt so bad, especially when the photos contained their family group shots (bride's relatives flew down from Shanghai!)

Lucky first shooter got in touch with me 2 days ago. Load of guilt taken off my chest (appr he was so busy editing he forgot about me )

Hope you find your card soon, but I won't put too much hope on it if I were you. Just try and forget this incident ook place. You'll feel better after a few days.

WOO! that kind of feeling u will want to slap urself a thousand times.
at least u can stare at the blankness of ur skills.

Recently, went to OBS kayaking. den i dropped my whole $2 toy camera w/ film loaded, into the sea water. lolx. it was like banking on hope that the photos will come out when i continued to take pictures, and im glad it did.
but the film came out screwed up like mad. Red colour, scratched by salt crystals. lolx/ at least i could see it.

Well. i nvr heard of those airport scanners screwing up memory cards before my experience, but after it i was sure it does. but somehow only in europe. in singapore i put through dunno how many times i dun give a damn one.

    More 'practical' suggestions:

For digital, shoot tethered to a laptop. At most, you'll lose your notebook (which, I think, is much bigger than a SD or CF)

For film, shoot with a 16x20 view camera (that's mammoth!)

    A 'near-ideal' suggestion:

Nikon offers this WiFi service by which you can download your images onto their server. You can still retrieve your existing files even when you lose your camera.

I also turned my car upside down last time to find something, but couldn't.

Months later, I found it, I don't exatcly know how. When I shifted the seats back and forth, there it was! Try shifting your seats, and search for it daytime and nighttime. (I prefer nighttime.)

You prefer to lose a laptop+the pictures inside rather than SD card+pictures inside?

I have the same experience of losing a 1GB CF card, full of RAW photos while in Angkor Wat.

I replaced my card which was full and placed it in my shirt's left hand pocket. I totally forgot about it and I think I must have dropped it while doing some odd angle bending to take some photos.

Good thing is... I always do a backup of my photos into a portable HDD after every replacement and thus, manage to save all the shots.

Dunno. For me I always shoot JPEG, so there has never been a problem for me, as SD card can store amazing amount of JPEGS.

But there was one time I was doing a photo-wall, three SD cards were in non-stop circulation between 2 printers, laptop and me with the camera. Couldn't keep track.. I started to get blur like cuckoo. (Thank God there were 2 assistants to help my screwed mind!)

Yes, consider that the Powerbook isn't mine.

Personally, I don't shoot tethered. But at work, I do.

Take this as a painful lesson and take preventive measures not to do the same mistake again. An SD card is really tiny. Maybe you could make it more visable by sticking reflective tape or something like that?
