Sigma 50-150 on D80

How is Sigma 50-150 on D80?
I read lot of reviews this lens is screw-up on canon mount.

I have a 50-150 mounted on a D80. Very silent and focuses fast. Images are pretty sharp, although I wish i had longer reach. I solved the problem by getting a Kenko Teleplus 1.4 TC pushing the focal length to 210mm (315mm equivalent)

is it recommendable to have this for portraiture?

Its good for portraiture. Bokeh is good. I bought it from TK Photo for about $1050 3 mths ago.

i got mine today, a 2nd hand copy at 75% the original price.

AF is superd. Sharpness when wide open is acceptable.

I got mine on a Canon mount. So far no issue, so dun quite understand your point on screw-up on canon mount? As what martinh pointed out, the lens is very silent and focuses fast. Images are pretty sharp.

I got mine at S$880 and purchased in Taipei just last week.

Why consider this lens when the sigma 70-200 2.8 is going for 880 2nd hand? you get longer reach and ability to use on FF....

This lens is almost half the weight of a 70-200 f2.8. It is more portable in term of built as it is smaller, slightly longer than a beer can 70-300. Of course, since it is DG, it can only be used on APC size sensor and not FF. Hence, if u r a travel photographer who wants a fast lens but not lug a heavy lens ard, this is a lens of yr choice.

Correction. It's a 'DC' lens, not a 'DG' lens. 'DG' is Sigma's term for a lens with coatings optimised for digital sensors, which include full-frame capable lenses.
