Hi Folks,
Glad to inform you that the diy remote trigger works well for the EOS400D. Since i've spent all my money buying the body and some used lenses, left with nothing for my remote. so went to Simlim last weekend to gather stuffs for my diy project. Result and cost as below :- It works exactly like the RC-03, with bulb mode and everything. For electrical diagrams, i find the instructions from the link below as the most informative. http://martybugs.net/photography/remote.cgi How it functions: 1. Off the Blue Switch (Bulb Mode Off) 2. Press Front Red Sw to Auto Focus 3. Use thumb and Press Top Rew Sw to Trigger Bulb Mode 1. Press Front Red Sw to Auto Focus 2. Switch on Blue Switch (Shutter Open) 3. Switch off Blue Switch (Shutter Close) Note: If Camera is not in bulb mode, switching on Blue Switch will activate Burst Paiseh to share the wiring inside, really messy job, and solder quality very poor . The most difficult part is to actually dig the hole in the project box to fit in those darn switches. So if you are broke, you can give the above a try. Guarantee will work ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers, Sherman |

i spent the whole national day today on this DIY remote trigger
![]() i went to Sim Lim Tower to buy the ingredients, lucky that they were open today. i managed to create 2 versions: * Normal trigger cable (costs less than S$10) * Wireless trigger using RF transmitter/receiver from R/C car This R/C car last time bought at Carrefour at only S$9.90 With additional ~S$20, i managed to make "Canon Wireless Remote Trigger" quite satisfied with the result ![]() although the wireless version will get interference if there is similiar R/C car around, but the costs is very minimum. Here is the normal trigger cable. ------------------------------ This is how it looks like. I purposedly use a female connector to the remote trigger to make it modular. The RED button is for focusing. The GREEN button is for shutter release. The Switch is for BULB function. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wireless Remote Trigger (Transmitter)
------------------------------------ This is the R/C car that costs only S$9.90 ![]() I opened up the Joystick and the car and take out the R/F transmitter/receiver circuit. ![]() ![]() This is the new transmitter. I use button battery CR2032 as the power source. ![]() ![]()

Wireless Remote Trigger (Receiver)
--------------------------------- This is the receiver to be connected to the camera. The power source is from 4 NiMH batteries. I had to add-in extra relays for the switching. Then 2 extra LEDs to indicate focusing or shutter release. ![]() And this is the pair. The thin blue-wire is the antenna. ![]() ![]() I tested that this kit can only transmit up to 10m in my house (not sure if it is outside, got to test).

Good effort. However i think a 3rd party would only cost about $10

Good effort. Very generous of you to share. It does not matter that one can buy a 3rd party (likely to be made in China) remote trigger for $10. That is because they make thousands and economy of scale brings the price down. This DIY is about knowing how to go about it, if one wishes to. |

I think it is the sharing and the result that makes one feel goods. The cost factor is not equal to the satisfaction one's get after doing the remotes.
This is called prototype. Well done! |

Hi all, thanks for sharing your effort as well. agreed, that my cost was quite high. dint bother to go around bargaining for the parts. dint help that i bought those expensive switches instead of em .50cents ones. worst part was i dint drill the holes, melt them with my solder iron, cant forget the smell man.
well, at least it worked, and its good to see many more inovative s'poreans out there. hmm, next maybe a diy light sphere "provided i manage to get my 2nd hand 430ex soon" |

Hi
If you want to do your own RF remote control, one of the places to purchase parts is at CONTINENTAL ELECTRONICS At sim lim Tower basement.. The RX and TX is SG$29.00, If you have a Canon 20D, 30D,40D, you need to purchase a ADIDT remote release cable from Oriental Electronics (sim lim sq, 6th floor) that and a small project box will come to the SAME PRICE as a CHINA ready made RF control that plugs directly into the Canon. There is a commercial Ready Made canon version that has 5 DIP switches for you to change the code in the field. The TX/RX set from continental requires you to perform micro soldering to fix your TX/RX code.. (no rolling code here) If you need rolling code, I can only recommend the KitsRus or the Wintech package which is large. However this is very small and convenient. With the ADIDT cable you can use it for manual shutter release whenever you need to.. however with the commercial unit you need to unplug it first. ![]() Here is my full remote control system with PAN TILT and Live Viewfinder feedback. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v3...c.com/robopan/ Hope this gives you some ideas.
