look at the screen first...see how good the colour is...then look at the Hardware...usually they will bundle the slow HD...u got to upgrade to the high speed one yourself...

if got vista...its best to go for the highest version...

I'm using DELL Inspiron 6000. old model, but I have the 1920x1200 screen resolution.

not too bad to edit photos.

the one i have came with xp...still slow as hell. if you want a dell notebook must splurge and buy one with lotsa ram. otherwise your rending in Ps and lightroom work flow will be a crawl.

i have vista ultimate on one of my older laptop running Pentium M 1.86 with 1GB ram...very smooth...but again...no other junk or unwanted software...

vista have its problem...but again...give it time like winxp...should be as stable soon...

dun bother with win2k...winxp to me is considered the most stable OS from MS yet...thats how i viewed it...

nowadays they had this " True Life " screen. However... laptop screen is small. Maybe buy a big good monitor for desktop ?

I use it (though I'm just an amateur) and know two other photographers who use it. No problems. Not a great machine, but good, and hard to beat their prices.

... Did you for just a second consider that your question might just have been a little too broad? I could tell you Dell's the best because it's top of the line laptop beats the lowest-end laptops from every other manufacturer, but how stupid a comparison would that be?

Laptops are pretty cheap nowadays. Got mine at about $1.6K. You may want to check out MC.2 at Funan or Suntec for the models.
    Minolta. Konica Minolta. Sony

Which ever laptop u end up buying you'll want to calibrate the screen first. I find the shadow and highlight detail tend to be lacking out of the box as the screens tend to be "over-contrasty".
