I have not invested much on FZ-20 so i do not mind if i happen to win toto. hehe But if you are planning toward one day you will replace it will D40x, do consider the ring size of any further purchase for FZ-20. Oh for sure at the moment you are going to miss the 12 x zoom, which is not available in original purchase of D40x. |

Before u sell your FZ-20 and buy D40x. Ask yourself what do u want to shoot, portraits, macro, landscape? Is weight and price a consideration for the new cam?
D40x may be cheaper and lighter, but need more expensive and heavier AFS lens. Unless you are going to stick to just one multi-purpose lens, 18-200mm VR for the body which can't do macro, not wide enough for landscape and no f2.8 aperture for creamy bokeh. |

you need the following lenses!! 1) Telephoto Lense, for long Reach - 70-300? 80-400? 500mm primes? 600mm? 2) Multipurpose lense for walk about - 18-200mm? or? need vibration reduction? 3) F2.8 Lense for Event Coverage - 17-35? 28-70mm? fast and works very well indoors? 4) Macro Lense for tiny Critters - 105mm Micro VR? 105mm AFd? 60mm Micro? 5) Wide Aperture Lenses for Portraiture - 85mm 1.4? 50mm 1.4? 6) Wide Angle Lenses for Landscapes - 10-20mm? 12-24mm? hehehe. and the list goes on.

After using the FZ10, I choose the DSLR as I needed the near-instant response from the DSLR as I take event shots once a while. So you need to find out if the FZ20 response is comparable. Alternatively you can rent a DSLR when you need the speed.

If you can only afford the kit lenses with the D40X you are planning to buy, you might miss the OIS in your FZ20. Beware of lens poison when crossing the border.
