Default Moved from 350 to 400 and I'm very happy about it!

This thread is not aimed at the pros and semi pros but rather the newer photography enthusiasts (beginners, really) like myself.

I got my 350 just a few months before the 400 was announced and I was, I admit, dumbstruck at the additional attractive upgrades on the 400 which exceeded my expectations. 10.1 megapix I can do without though it doesn't hurt but the bigger screen did - I told myself it would use more battery and be impractical and get very greasy. Then there's the automatic dust cleaning of the sensor; a nice to have I think (but really nice). I also likes the rubber thumb rest on the back of the camera. But all in all I didn't want to upgrade.

As I got a little more proficient with the 350D I absolutely loved it, but the one feature I missed was 1-2 more dials to handle ISO, Aperture etc instead of everything being controlled by one set of dials which I find a bit confusing. The 400 is the same but because the settings are immediately and clearly displayed on the back in very bright letters and symbols, it removes all the clutter and confusion and for that reason alone I would upgrade. I already love that bigger screen, also for better (much better) review of pictures taken.

I regret that the shutter button in now black plastic instead of chrome. And the "mode dial" though almost identical looks just a hairbreadth better on the 350 - aestetics and highly subjective, they certainly feel the same so all in all - and assuming I get to sell my pristine 350 for a good price, the couple of hundred bucks the upgrade cost me is well worth it in my book.

Now I just have to set up a meeting with USM so I can begin to learn how to really take advantage of the 400's features; I am beginning to realize that though good equipment helps, it does not a photographer make; in fact you are more liable to screw up the more advanced the camera is though there is of course the pre-set modes, thank you very much but I am getting keen to dabble with the settings. USM are you reading this?

Hi USM,

well once again I'm off on a trip but I should have time next weekend or the weekend thereafter; look forward to hear from you.
