Jus bought D80 with kit today
am i suppose to get AF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G DX IF-ED ? the shop guy told me they run out of AF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G DX IF-ED and give me 18-70mm instead. He also told me actually 18-70 is better quality len than 18-135, so is it true? jus check price list from this forum and found out tat 18-135 cost much more than 18-70 (he told me these 2 lens same price) |

the 18-135 sells for a bit more in the 2nd hand market, and costs more brandnew.
the 18-70 is slightly better than then 18-135 in terms of vignette, but sharpness wise, wide open the 18-135 is sharper by a bit, however higher in distortion as well.

Maybe you should tell us how much you paid?
The 18-135mm kit set will cost close to 1.8k If you are charged less, then there is no complaints, otherwise it is cheating.

IMHO the 18-135 is definitely better. If same price definitely cannot compare. If they offer you at a lower price and tell you the differences, you made the decision and there is nothing to say. However, if the same price for 18-135 and you get 18-70 that's not right.

from OP.. sure grey mah..
![]() IMHO i think buying grey bodies should be avoided. Recently i notice 2 hot red pixel on my D80 while tanking night shots. Dun feel so good, but at least i can send back to NSC for service. Cannot imagine buying Grey.. dun think the shop will change the set just becoz of 2 hot pixels. Even if they 'service' it.. will sure take longer. ![]() Last edited by LeoDaddy; 5th August 2007 at 01:31 PM. |

To know if your set is covered under local warranty, check if you have Nikon Singapore's Warranty card. However, buyng from OP, you can be pretty sure they are grey from China. |

![]() I've just seen some photos shot with 18~200VR from another thread.. seems to exhibit the exact same problems I have in my 18~135 kit lens. But if you look at flexibility, 18~200VR surely superior to 18~135mm, and 18~135mm is better then 18~70mm. My 0.2 cents worth.. ![]() |
