i vote bad, but maybe fair is a better option. i would not be able to put good because bad incidents are not infrequent. i wouldn't grade any of the company service as very good, becos none of the brands offer a minimum of 3 years warranty for the basic model and 5 years or more for the more advanced models - a period i regard as the expected minimum lifespan of a digital model. one year warranty is absurd, unless i spend less than $200 for a functional camera unit.
very often, one just represent a single customer who is unlikely to encounter a wide range of problems, but potentially can have any of this problem. hence a better assessment is to see how is the general impression from most users and examples of the most traumatized. very good should be - almost everyone is happy, many have received much better bonus treatment than what they expect as reasonable. - almost no bad complaints, one should hear of at most 2-3 bad incidents that are eventually resolved satisfactorily good should be - most people are happy with the service, some received bonus treatment - bad incidents are infrequent and most are eventually resolved satisfactorily; isolated cases of unresolved bad treatments are very rare fair should be - a mixed variety of satisfaction, bonus treatment is only for some individuals and cannot be applied to others - bad incidents are not infrequent, only some are resolved satisfactorily with lots of improvement needed. bitter experiences are not rare. bad should be - plenty of complaints, many are routinely unresolved and ignored. - bitter experiences are commonly heard very bad should be - dishonest behaviours, cheating, excuses, eating back of words, not honouring a warranty that should be honoured - unethical practices stated openly in their company policies, i.e. refurbished set during early part of a warranty. if one bought a 1k device which is spoilt in 1-2mths, there is no reason why he should exchanged a refurbished set instead of getting a new set, when it is obviously clear of a defect in the quality control. . Excellent for me!
I sent in my 18-200 to tighten the lens barrel so that there will be less zoom creep problem. When returned, not only the creep problem is solved, they also replaced the SWM for free (which i did not realize that it had problem), and they did this despite that my warranty had expired for about a month!! I voted good but I would vote Canon's as excellent. Still, I only went to the showroom to collect the Nikon T-shirt. Haven't found a need to visit them for service yet. So I'd vote Nikon cameras as Excellent.
