Hi pple!
Just wanna do a list of the best zoom lenses that has good resolution, fast AF, Wide F1.4/2.8 and in the range of 14/20-70/85mm including all third party lenses. And I believe any debate on this issue would benefit all CSers in general. ![]() The benchmark will be Sigma's 17-70 F2.8-4.5 DC macro. Thx bro ![]()

Since this is the Canon thread....
24-70mm f/2.8L 16-35mm f/2.8L These 2 will satisfy all your criteria. And there is no zoom lens that has aperture wider than f/2.8, unless you want to consider prime lenses.

most of the f/2.8 standard zooms from canon, sigma, tamron and tokina will give good sharpness. yet, as one of your other criteria is fast af, most are probably fast enough in good light, but in low light its another story. and lastly, there is also an issue of af accuracy and consistency.
frankly la, there are not many lenses that are from 14/20-70/85mm. there is only the sigma 17-70mm. the others are all 24/28-70/75/80mms or 16/17/18-50mms. nontheless, the lenses that suit your criteria could be: canon 24-70L canon 28-70L tamron 28-75SP sigma 24-70EX sigma 28-70EX canon 17-55IS tamron 17-50SP sigma 18-50EX Macro |

Hey fellow bros n sis, Thx for your sharing...do keep your ideas flowing.
The reasons why I am including the third party lenses are: 1. Let be as creative as our creation and not put any limit. 2. Many of the third party have interesting lenses too. thx

Thx for the feedback. To be more specific, the resolution is about the sharpness that a lens can offer in a given sample for most DSLR.
Anymore constructive feedback to make this a better discussion? Probably will do a summary every Monday for this thread. ![]()

Thx SM USM for your elaborated suggestion.
Can I suggest that we narrow down the lenses to those below since realizing that most of the CSers are using APS-C sensor instead of Full Sensor? Another reason is due to lack of resources to comment on the Full Sensor corresponding lenses, but hope that future threads would look into that. Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX DG 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC macro Hmmm wonder why the lens giants are not targeting this range cos there are only a few options here...especially with the 1.6x sensor factor translating a say 14-85 into an interesting 22.4-136mm. Any comment on the above lenses? ![]()
