Default 10-22mm + 430Ex

Hi Guys,

Planning to get the Speedlite 430Ex because the internal flash creates a shadow at 10-18mm on the efs10-22mm. But I saw from the specs that the 430Ex can only do wide angle coverage to 14mm. No way to cover 10-13mm??

Thanks.

hi! i have the exact setup (10-22mm + 430ex) and it covers my photos even if i am at 10mm. i think it depends on how much you're expecting... the results are pretty decent i say.

Do note that the quoted flash coverage is for 35mm equivalent. So your 10-22mm on your crop sensor is actually 16-35mm - easily covered by the flash.

if you bounce flash correctly, there is confirm no vignet on the 10-22 =)

You'll have to bounce the flash or use a diffuser like the omnibounce or lightsphere.

No you won't. 14mm coverage is assuming you are on FF. If you consider the angle of view of a 10-22mm, it is similar to a 16-35mm on FF, which the 430EX can cover properly. That said, none of the other flashes Canon has will cover anything wider than 14mm (FF equiv) anyway.

if you have your flash pointed forward with that lens and if you go close enough to your subject (which is normal for a wide angle), you'll get darkened lower portions.

Sorry, my bad. Dun know the specs of the flash well enough.
Well, ya, the coverage is all in FF equivalent, so effectively the 10-22 on a 1.6x crop body will give 16mm, which the 430ex can cover with the pull-down diffuser panel.
