An imperfect method is to simply raise the contrast and selectively masking. Wont' be as good as no smoke though.

i've tried to PS away smoke, but when finish, i delete away the tiff file.
the smoke during 28 aug 2007 NDP preview is too much.

take a picture of the scene without the fireworks
and add the fireworks in, minus the smoke

Try using layers and blending modes.

I'm going to try this next time - use a polariser. Any bros here know if this will help reduce reflected light from the smoke? Yeah the one on Aug 28th was really smoky. I think it is because before the official fireworks began, there were already quite a few fireworks being shot from the stage and from the bridge.

I tried using the "dodge" tool in PS. You can set the dodge brush size and intensity. Choose a lower intensity (less than 20%) and one-cent coin size brush. HOLD the Alt key and rub over the smoke ONLY once. If the smoke covers the fireworks, use even lower intensity and rub over ONLY once, else the fireworks becomes washed out. Takes a lot of time and "agaration". The results can be satisfying

you cannot ps away smoke, cos you already lose data on the image when you took the smoke. what you can do is to use the different channels on photoshop to lighten the smoke and bring out your fireworks to make it stand out. i hope you took your pictures in raw. :P
