Very lovely collection you've got of Xinjiang on your Flickr. Great stuff!

I supposed you went from Xinjiang down south to Karakoram Highway?

thanks

after trekking to the base camp in mount bogeda in tianchi, we took a train to khasgar, and from there we hired a vehicle to drive us along karakoram highway. We stayed 1 night at the yurt in karakul lake, which also allows us to view Muztagh Ata.

Excellent photos

One of my best memories of Hemu is as we were approaching it from Kanas. Just like a picture out of a fairy tale.

Pardon my newbie question - when you say panorama, do you shoot with a different camera at this size or you crop later to this size.

basically what i did was to pan from left to right or vice versa, ensuring that the horizon is constant throughtout all the photos i've taken, and ensuring at least abt 1/3 of each foto is overlapping each other. then i use photoshop to manually stitch them all together. some panorama shots are taken with about 2 - 9 shots.

no cropping done.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. Appreciate it.

You should write a travelogue and share your experience of travelling in Xinjiang too.

For serious panoramic photography, yes you need to use the following:
- tripod
- pano head
- camera mounted vertically
- release shutter cable
- wide ange lens

overlap 20% each sides for stitching, constant exposure, do not use polariser, level the pano head.

im using a ball head atm. So usually i will lvl the head and then just pan using the horizontal adjustment.

For best stitching with minimun distortion, you should pan or rotate at the nodal point.

i jus pan using my body. too shiong to carry so many equipment with me. plus i have to move fast at times while trekking. but of cos it introduces some horizon misalignments in post and got to shift the fotos around to match the horizon for all pics.

i see. any preference on the range of the len thou ?? i know some ultrawide are known to have some distortion(making stitching harder).

I have seen 16mm (after multiple) shots stitched well with Panorama Factory. The wider the shot, the lesser the number of the shots are needed.

You can try single row with multiple wide angle (< 28mm) shots or multiple rows with standard wide ( 35mm ).
