Default NDP - Apache Longbows

NDP wont be complete without the Apache Longbows. Although they just do a fly past, they are there way before the show. At least 2 hang around the ECP each week, just in case...
They nevertheless thrill the ECP crowd with their presence each time.

Hmmm.... interestingly, none of them seem to be carrying any sidewinders. Just Hydras & Hellfires. Do not think I have seen any of them here with any Air-to-air weapons yet.

Hmm... Our Apache don't come with any air to air weaponary system, so don't think you'll ever see any sidewinder installed.

Anyway, great shots. Just that your #2 is a little 'impossible' for any guys who is familiar with flying operations in our Air Force, that's too close for comfort and would result in incident or near mid-air incident report. So I'm not sure if you really have taken this shot with the two of them so close to each other.

i think its just a matter of perspective resulting in that 'near-miss' shot...

or he could have photoshopped it or cut and pasted it or cloned it or basically made the whole thing up.

seriously, i have no idea what you're trying to say! haha

Haha... It's OK, it's just that I'm from the Air Force and involved in flying operations (helicopters operations), thus I know just how too close these two Apaches had come too close for comfort, which will definitely resulting in an incident report.

I sincerely hope it's just a result of PS work instead of really what happened.

when you use a tele-lens, the front & back objects will look nearer to each other compared to a wide angle. (e.g. same distance between object A & B, when you are nearer using a wide angle, object A looks much bigger than object B. But when you use a tele-lens usually from a much further distance away, they will look nearer to each other.)

so they are not really that close to each other as you think.

If still too close for "any guys who is familiar with flying operations in our Air Force" than maybe it's the aircraft, the pilots or safety requirements are different. Maybe you should see it yourself at the NDP whether it is really too close for comfort.

If you dont know what you are talking about, it is better to keep quiet than let the whole world know.

As for #2, as Rokieto has mentioned, it is the effect of the telephoto lens compression of the distance. The distance between the 2 in #1 and #2 are quite the same as far as I can tell. Just that in #2, they were banking to the left so it appears that they are very close. I have no doubts that the pilots flying these things are definitely capable of judging the distance between each other unless they have a desire for writing IRs. And I am always amazed that people think I'd rather spend time doing photoshop than be out there actually taking photos.

Thanks for pointing out and I do stand to be corrected since I'm a newbie to photography.

I have seen it at the NDP cause I'm involved in the NDP photo-taking. Hehe... So far, they are OK at the theater, in fact, at some point of time, I thought the pilots could do a little more bold manveours. Haha... It's just the photo did play a little trick on my eyes, thus, I thought it could possible be a close mishap.

We were having coffee yesterday and discussed this... that if the Apache actually fire a Hellfire during the NDP, that would be the first time in history at a National level parade in any country that live firing was conducted! Then, you will need someone on the ground with the laser marker... and knowing Singapore weather... that guy sneezed... and then "opps, sir... there goes the Merlion". ha ha ha...

actually, i was expecting some " mock attack " display of the firing capability of Apaches. Maybe they could place some dummy tanks on a floating barge to let the Apaches do some firing at it. What a trill to see oil barrel drums flying up by the impact of Apache cannon rounds..

The wingtip rails of the AH-64D can accommodate a total of two Sidewinders or four Stingers/Starstreaks.

Can it be 'mocked' - up with firing blanks, and placing small charges under the drums to simulate impact?

The laser marker is necessary only for the earlier variant of the Hellfire which is laser guided.

The latest variant used by the Longbow is radar guided - to be exact, MMW or millimetre wave radar & remove the need for a laser "pointer"
