    Default Will rechargeble batteries leak?

Hello everyone, the normal zinc carbon and alkaline batteries leak when it is not used for an extended period of time. Likewise, will a rechargeable (eg. Powerex, Eneloop, etc.) battery leak if placed, say, in the flash unit for a long time?

Comments and replies are much appreciated.

What kinda leak are you referring to? Power leaking or corrosion?
Yes all batteries will have some sorta power leak, only difference is fast or slow. No battery is so effective in retaining 100% charge for extended periods of time.

Regarding corrosion, yes there is a possibility. NiMH batteries are less prone to corrosion as compared to NiCd. Li-Ion/Polymer batteries are much unlikely to leak since they have to be carefully designed for safe consumer use (lithium is dangerous when mishandled), wouldn't say there is no possibility though, sh*t happens. Best bet is to keep your batteries seperately when going to be kept away for some time.

Override2Zion, thanks for the reply. My apologies, for not clarifying the type of leak that I was referring to.

I was actually referring the chemical leak. Eg.: the corrosive fluid that can be found on batteries that are left lying around for a long time.

    many years agoo..

my Sony rechargable batteries leaked after I bought it with the Sony Walkman player (for only 1 month).

lucky the batteries are not in the walkman..

I called the person in charge at Tangs, they say "not liable, warranty only the walkman player".
