Also, female are getting more independent, so they are more willing to divorce if they are not happy with the marriage compare to old time.
Less backlash also, in the old days if you are female and get divorced sometimes your family finds it shameful to even want to take you back, because you are like, "rejected goods".

Times change, things change, I guess.

I am not surprise with the reported statistics.
When economy is good, I expect the marriage and divorce figures to go up.

Young couples with more cash will find it easier to set up a family and pay for their wedding dinner.

The divorce rate should be constant all along. And the mean time to marriage failure should be around 4-7 years (personal view). Those who married in the 90ís have put off the divorce idea because property prices crashed during the 97 financial crisis. Now the property prices have recovered to the pre crisis level and it is the best time to unlock their properties. Therefore we see a surge in divorce cases.

In my own view, there are also other reasons why divorce rate is high.
Single Singaporeans are systematically marginalized, they are not allow to buy public housing until they reach 35 years old and can only buy old flats. In the earlier days, single canít even buy a flat, they need to find a co-tenant. Therefore, there are couples who married just for the sake of applying for a flat and to realise later that marriage does not work that way.

i cannot agree with you on this direct relationship of divorce rates and property prices. absurb and irrational. from one with almost 14 years of ups and downs in a marriage and still holding on.

Yah, it is ok to disagree with my logic. The reasons why i have this idea is because I have two friends who decided not to divorce (but living separately) is because they are suffering negative equity as both bought their flats before the 97 crisis. Had they sell their properties, both have to cough out additional cash to pay back the CPF. Now with the property prices at its peak, I think they are filing for a divorce, i dare not ask.
I also read in Sunday Times, there are alot of similar cases.

Comparing ourselve and those in the west .

Our life is a drag .

we drag our everything to wherever we go .

Our stress control have limits .

On one of the beautiful afternoon i was schedule to do a shoot for some people and happen to be in a lift with two young women .

The conversion was this " I can't wait to leave the office , I'm so stress "

On the same evening after my shoot , I went to an open area where people wait for their love one to get off work .

So I saw this another young women , her face was certainly long , that face expression surely make me want to go up to her and shake her up side down . However when one gentleman appear in front of her , her smile just come from no where and stopped me from imaging nuts .

    ha ha ha ha ....

i think in life when stress are above all , we don't see and think as logically as we could .

We are just like what some here said , " Complex "

When Complex and stress mixed well we will always be in trouble .

Marriage is not an holy thing in life anymore , it's the quality of life both shared .

So is it's money which produce your stress or is it the life culture here are just too meaningless .

I just believe that marriage was make lousy due to the course of complex and stress , People here got no patience, the society make it more difficult for us , the mutliply worries we had here make it worst for us , what can we asked for more when one partner starting to give trouble and looking forwards for a "Part" .

Our choice are little , marriage are gamble .

Ha ha ha ha ha .......

Today on the road i saw a couple riding motor bike , the man was simply giving bad language lessen to his wife , the bike was doing the snake stunt and how i felt is bad , i hope that nothing will happen to them .
The stress was all out in the couple relation with just a bike ride act .

    Just sharing.
