I use an Epson AIO that has 4 inidividual ink catridges. I understand that it runs cleaning cycles each time I turn on the printer. My problem is that it seems that regardless of what I'm printing, all 4 different ink catridges run out at the same time.
For example, I mostly print only documents but my colour inks run out as well. Does this mean that I am using so little that even the cleaning uses more ink each time? I feel that having all 4 run out at the same time seems to defeat the purpose of having 4 separate catridges in the first place. Please enlighten, thanks. |

My old Epson AIO print head kept clogging, so I had to run cleaning. Both the cleaning and startup really drank up a lot of ink. btw, I used original Epson only.
I got fed up and switched to HP. Ink now drains according to usage. I believe all Epson AIO have this problem. Time for you to switch too.

My Epson AIO used ink individually but ended up completely clogged, so it was time for Canon.
It seems as though the rate of ink usage is tied to the price of the machine. The cheaper the machine, the more ink used. |

Thats what those continuous inking kits are for...and why Epson is trying so hard to get rid of them to protect their obscene profit from selling a few 'ccs of ink for $20.

anyone using the SIM LIM Square's 4th or 5th floor ink refilling stuff?
they modified the ink compartment into something bigger and seemingly more efficient and cheaper 3rd party ink. ![]() paiseh, the webby.

There's little point to use 3rd party ink with Epson. Epson is known to be the easiest to clog (while HP is the easiest to chew up paper), and the only advantage I see is their pigment-based inks.
Better buy a laser printer if you print documents only. If you want to print photos that last, go to a photo lab, or get an HP 9180. According to Wilhelm, most dye-based inks (especially those 3rd party ink) don't last long when exposed to light, gas and moisture, and dye-sub prints (eg, Canon Selphy) don't last long either. |

Actually the indicator and the actual ink are not in sync, there's this device which can "bluff" your computer to think that it's still full, you can actually use until it is *really* empty

Well, my problem isn't actually clogging. In fact as far as I remember, my printer has only clogged once. The 'cleaning cycles' I was referring to were the warming up action that I believe all printers do which uses a bit of ink. So do any of you feel that the ink level goes down way faster than you actually use them due to the warm-up action?
Anyway, I had thought that maybe Epson had made their ink catridges to report themselves to be empty after a set period of time even if not actually empty, but a few months back I read an article that said this was not true, that there always needs to be some ink left in the catridge due to the design on the printhead. Grantyale, you mentioned that HP chews paper the fastest? May I know what you're referring to? Seems like all brands have their downsides then, Canon is good but has the least longevity while Epson clogs the most. |

Download the SSC Epson Utility Service to "control" your printers.
This web-site:: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Utility.shtml Some features include a super heavy cleaning... Btw, Epson inks cartridges are low in volume...... And each cleaning eats some 0.6ml of ink. So lets say each color contributes 0.15ml... And each time U start your printer, does some cleaning, and also when U change individual ink, U uses some ink too as your printer will try to clean again. |
