    Thanks for the suggestion Sulhan.

Has anyone been to a show-aquarium, or seen a show tank? The best displays are normally situated in a darkened room, and the tanks all have darkened/black borders (if any) so that the main content stands out above everything.

What I'm trying to do is get a low-er-key BG/shot mainly to allow the food to contrast and stand-out more, with deep, rich tones and colours. I was trying to avoid the light, white lay-outs that are all too common in food photographs. Kinda think of it more like a 'mood' shot of food.

Here's my final layout. C&C welcome.

Not good to look at when you are starving....

Think it would be better if you moved the water mark lower. I find the white stuff (eggs or potatoe?) in the background a bit distracting. I do prefer the darker background of the second shot.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right, the baby potatoes in the BG is a little bright, so I tried to darken it a little...I also darkened the bit behind the rosemary on the left.

How does it look now? Any suggestions on the lay-out?

Please feel free to edit my picture. I suck at post-work.

Pablo, that rack came from a sow! LOL!

The orange glow of an oven or flame grill in the background would make it perfect...

Yes, that would be awesome! I though of glowing coals in the BG, but it doesn't quite convey the same effect. Besides, I'll probably burn my kitechen down! LOL!

Sigh...I dream of having a stone oven like those you see at Modesto or Kenny Rogers.

OK, I'll do another version tomorrow and see how it goes.

After some down-to-earth critiquing from a very helpful member, I looked for my other lay-out and found this:

Potatoes darkened, and the back of the bones lightened very slightly.

With the dark background and whitish light, it looks like someone's midnight snack just taken out from the fridge...
