choose Minilabs!

For "photo labs", I meant sending pics/film/negatives/slides to the shop for printing. whether they use minilabs or whatever is not important....

my canon s800 doesn't have a green cast and what i've seen of the s820, it doesn't have a green cast either. there may be something wrong in your workflow? s820 is pretty fast if you've been using a budget epson like 810

Haha ... so far I have no intention to have them printed for 2 simple reasons.

1. No space to keep them.
2. No quality work, print for what?

no previously i was using the Epson 740
the 820 is slow compared to the 5series from canon.

i was wondering why is there a greenish cast also... i compare the print from the lab and mine from the s820, same photo, the black seems abit greenish thats all

overall the quality is great

I used to use inkjets (like 18 or more months back). Then I discovered somethings called Frontier and Durst Lambdas....

Anyway I send all my (modest few) digital shots to FDI labs now.

FDI = Fuji Digital Imaging. A lot of Fuji labs are FDI labs. E.g. Colour Lab, Konota, RGB, etc.

Depends on wihch printer are you using, diff printers have diff paper recommendations which has diff price.. and the price of the ink differs as well.

Just to give a rough idea, I'm using S820, ink costs 14.33 X 6(colours) = 90$ but you can print hundred over of A4 photos already.

Canon photo paper pro A4 20 sheets costs about 18$.

If you'll be printing more than 30pics, might as well bring it to FDI.. i think it will save you cost and effort.

Rgds,

CKiang's right. Last I checked their website, they listed 20+ FDIs in Singapore. Price-wise, they are supposedly controlled by Fuji - $0.50 per 4R print with a $5/- handling fee. But if you are a regular customer...... well, I getting mine at $0.30 aprint, minimum 10 x 4R.
Hmmm.... I'm sending some for printing at KT Color at Upp Cross St. Maybe should ask the boss there to offer a blanket rate to CS members?

For 4R printing, I feel sending to a photo lab will get up a better quality and better price per print ratio.

unless you only want to print 1 or 2 sheets for a friend.

For A4 (8R) printing, The price per print ratio, tend to favour the inkjet printing as the photo labs charge pretty high for an 8R print.

A A4-size Photo Paper Pro, costs below $2 and add the inks spent, the total cost should not exceed $3 for ink-jet printing.

I'm using a Canon S820 and like the speed and quality.

On Canon Photo Paper Pro or Canon Glossy Plus papers, the print quality is very good.

Have recently changed from Canon original ink cartridges over to a 3rd party brand, Sepom at S$8.50 per piece (50% discount man !)

Also tried Kodak Glossy Papers 4R at S$8.50 for 30 pcs. Quality of the printout is as good as the Canon Glossy Plus paper.

Hi guys,
Is it advisable to use 3rd party brand photo paper to print? Saw a Taiwan brand photo 4R paper selling less then $9.00 for 50 pieces at Sim Lim.
