    Default Battery chargers in car

    Hi all,
    Is there some kind of "universal" battery charger for use in a car ?

    I have seen chargers to charge mobile phones, I believe Canon makes a kit/adaptor to charge camera batteries too.

    If I am going to be on the move for 8-10 days on a driving trip, and want to charge my laptop, mobile phone, camera batteries, AA rechargeable batteries etc. on the go, is there a solution to not carrying individual adaptors for charging the same ?

    Thanks for your replies, in advance.

    You need a power inverter that plugs into the car cigarette lighter socket.
    The inverter will convert the 12VDC car battery power into ac, so you can connect the ac cables of your various chargers.

    WOW, Thanks . Any idea where I can find this power inverter ?
    I will check around in EastGear and probably some of the shops that sell car accessories in Jalan Besar.

    I searched for DC to AC inverters, on the internet. Found quite a few models. They seem to come in different wattages. How do I decide which one is the right one ?
    Me blurr

    Please help.

    The wattage required, i.e. the power output, depends on what you are going to charge or connect to. The power output must exceed the total power of the equipment that will be connected simultaneously by a little (say 10%). The extra is for safety.

    Let's say you connect a laptop (80W) and a PDA (30W). Then you would need at least about 120W total output. The numbers here are for illustration only. I don't know how much power these equipment require - you'll have to check the chargers to find out.

    Watt = Voltage x Ampere
    E.g. a charger is rated 240V, 0.3A as input, then power = 240V x 0.3A = 72W

    I don't know what is the limit to how much power can be drawn from the car battery - you might want to check with the shops.

    All this is based on what I can remember from school days (which was a long time ago ), so if anyone spots any mistakes, do point them out.
