Default Sunset at SAF Yacht Club

Was at SAF Yacht Club last Sunday and took a few shots of the sunset. As I'm totally new to photography and this is my first attempt to shoot with my first DSLR (D50), would like to receive some comments on the composition, WB and exposure. Of course, any other C&C are also welcome.

    Shutter : 1/4000
    Aperture : F5.6
    White Balance : Cloudy
    ISO : 640

nice picture actually... just a personal suggestion to make the shot nicer.

I see that the left and right side of the shot is not very balanced. Left is very interesting with the beautiful sunset and structure, while the right side is... nothing! For sunset shots, it doesn't have to be landscape, it can also be portrait oriented. If this shot is portrait, then the composition will tighter.

try to use smaller aperture setting..

yes smaller aperture setting. Wonder why u are using iso 640? sunset is usually quite bright. you can afford to underexpose maybe 2 stops to bright out more glow from the sun. try different composition of more sky, less water or vice versa and see which suits ur choice. You might want to try using portrait shots too to include the skies if the clouds are nice. =D

    Hi Cjl,
This is the one at Sembawang.

    Hi sprintist,
Actually, I set the ISO to auto and didn't know that it was auto set to 640 at the point I took the picture. Still learning to control the camera.

Make the sun stands out more by making it brighter and the rest darker?

    Thanks.
