What responsibility? We are talking about art and the critic of art. By defination, there is no defination for art. Art is for the ey of the beholder.

What are you trying to advoicate? I can only think of one, elitism.

Since I advocate a free world with freedom of expression, feel free to advocate your brand of elitism and exclusionism. I may not like it, and I do not, but I respect your rights to do things, no matter how well thought out they may be.

Paying customers' comments and criticisms are just that, something aritsts have to live with the make ends meet. I respect that. Please do not equate these commetns from customers with true criticism. It's an insult to the honest critics.

Again, your yearning for an elitist enviroment ozzes out of every crevices. A non-professional can not criticise? Wow, how much clear can you get to endorsing elitism.

Go forth and set you your elitist forum. I won't be joining, don't think a free thinker like me will be welcom. And by the way, I am a rank amateur hobbist, I won;t be able to say much.

I also agree with you on the above passage.

Only people who are too full of **** will ever try to define Art.

I think he's just trying to say that a non-professional, just picked from the streets, is just going to give a comment, honest feedback, of how the photo appeals to him/her visually. Nothing to do about the technicalities of how the shot was taken.

Well, a non-professionals can always comments, but not Critique -- that's the difference.

However, if that same person is paying to have his comments turned into 'Critiques', then you got to make your own judegement to Serve or Not to Serve.
it's very simple why it's impossible to limit the act of critique.

if your logic holds true, no one is eligible to answer TS's query except one who is a certified expert critic, a certified critic of critics, or have experienced tons of criticisms.

wow, everyone needs to cool down here...there is no fine line as to wat is rite or wrong...wat appeals to u, might not be the samme for others...so, let's just relax a little and take things as it is...a critique that thinks like u will definitely be in ur favour but those who are not of the same thinking will definitely cause some conflicts... just a quote- "you are your best critic"

that's right, you are your best critic and no one can say that you are not fit to critique except yourself as well! but everyone has the right to disagree with your critique as well if you ever make one

Take whatever is good and leave whatever is bad for you. Let people freely express themselves. Good friends would not be truthful to you but your enemies would, they may even exaggerate. So pick up their comment and work on it to improve yourself later they won't have any more thing to say.

Thought a critique was just to help you take better shots. Simply put.

Yes, you were right that I'm suggesting you prove your credentials, but that is only because you insisted that creadentials are necessary. Since that is your stand, should you not practise what you preach? That was my suggestion.

Of course, you may chose to disagreed with me and that's fine. We're entilted to our opinion and I think we can chose to agreed to disagreed. I've accorded you the courtesy, and do hope for a gentlemanly gesture from you.

    Cheers

BTW, No, I don't have too much time on my hands. Just that my clients ( from CAAS ) and I were reading through the whole thread while waiting for the replacement model to arrival. We just though that it would be appropriate to post my views.
You contradict yourself, if you ask for credentials from Nikontiger, aren't you suggesting that that is the correct attitude?

Did someone just deleted one of my posting?

    I did make a post between #225 and #226

In that post, I am refering to the validity of the below rule set in the Critique Forum

"Please take note that any comments not related to or not contributing to the critique of the pictures will be removed without notice.

That includes oneliners like 'nice' '' 'good' etc."

Is it not important for the critique seeker to know how the mass/layman perceives his/her picture, instead of getting feedback from a few professionals who are endowed with technical jargons?

i believe the moderator of this section deleted your post. to answer your question, guidelines in critique corner are tailored to reflect the tendencies and needs of postings. the issues of critique corner have been debated many times, i don't see you raising your doubts in the countless discussions, so are you trying to be an opportunist and ignite some kind of flaming here? you've been in this forum long enough to know that there's a feedback section. if you think critique corner is badly run and should be conducted in another fashion, you are always welcomed to volunteer your service to maintain the section, whether the admin will allow you to do that is another question.

to further answer your query, no layman is barred from posting inside critique corner. in critique corner we moderate the content of the post, not the identities of the posters. that is why included in the stickies also are explanations about critique and how to go about with the work of critiquing. you've taken the words severely out of context and made a bad allegation.

I absolutely love the way this tango is being danced...

Anyone is free to express themselves however they want the caveat here is that you sould do so in accordance to the laws of the land and/or forum that is laid down. You want to sun bath in the nude? Sure, do it in the proper place or in a country where it is allowed.

Similarly, you want to post critiques in a particular section whereby the rules are very clearly laid down, then do ensure you follow these rules. I am sure that isn't too much to ask.

So before either one of you go down this slippery slope any further and continue to insist that you have very right to do everything and anything you want, may i suggest you seriously reconsider.

    Thank you.

PS: Do take this as a warning proper. The next one will come in a very different form.

and to show how badly you've taken the words out of context, the fairness in the rule lies in disallowing unrelated and non-contributing comments. words like ''sucks'' and ''nice'' do nothing to help in the context of CS. if one looks for such 1-liner, there's no need to post in critique corner. to allow such comments to run is to demean the value of critique, as witnessed, for more than 1 year critique corner degenerated into nothing more than a lesser extension of the other galleries, many critique seekers were posting pictures made without much effort, and many critique givers post to drop some inconsequential thoughts, is that the kind of critique corner you want?
