Default Did anyone get a call from Starhub to change modem?

Did anyone get many calls from Starhub recently to change their modem? THey cited grounds of "oh its better for you - solves problems on your netspeed etc".

Problem is I don't have any issues with my connection, its fast and good; and I don't want to fix what's not broken, and waste time to arrange a pickup/exchange time.

Anyone face a similar situation? Or is my speed too fast that they want to give me a "hacked-down" modem?

I never heard of any commercial company so pro-change unless it is to their interest (ie somehow the old modem compromises their systems or resources. The only companies who will voluntarily do product recalls relate to real safety reason.

Any similar experiences would be appreciated.

Hmm, I'm already on the 100mbps model - is that the SB6100?

    They didn't mention any charges.

    Anything broken?

If yes (like my uber old Terayon modem, they did a 1-on-1 goodwill FOC change and keep giving me disconnection problems), den change it.

If no, den forget abt it.

I too had to change modems when they upgraded the line. They changed one white motorola one for me..

Scenario: Line disconnected, so suckhubs offered to change modem. After changing for a month or so, problems uploading stuff. After 2-3 weeks of that, can't surf.. It's faster on phone line. Currently i'm in Mac using wireless@sg.

Suckhubs synosis: Suckhub says it's my wireless router that's causing the problem. Hence i did a test.. it is slightly faster connected directly. To me, it can't be, cos the only change was the modem and i've been using wireless for YEARS

So i went back to wireless and did some tracert and pings to see where it's dropping... <1ms for the wireless

My conclusion: don't change the modem if possible.

Too bad the rest of the ISPs are equally sucky.... sigh. but i'll have no choice but to change if the dun resolve it

Hmm, there's nothing wrong with my connection right now, in fact recently (within the last 2 weeks), I find the line is much faster than when I first signed up.

So I'm very reluctant to change anything as there is nothing wrong.

The impression given is that I'm not the only one being asked to change - all the 100mbps pple are asked to change.

I am still using their very ancient model, Terayon TJ210, and it's still working fine. From my experience, starhub is still the best broadband/cable isp provider in sg. You should hear what my friends have to say about singtel..

If your modem's still working fine, like u say it is. don't change it, even if it's free (though i don't think it is). never know what probs you would encounter with your new modem.

TJ210! I used to have it until disconnection problems (since their 'free speed upgrade') became so bad that I lodged a call to Starhub regarding the problem.

My tone was ok, I guess the chap was in a good mood too. So he offered a refurb modem swap. Dun have to pay a single cent.

I'm a happy man. No more disconnection problems.

My problem is if they "force" or "insist" that I change it. I already staved off one attempt at trying to get me to change, but they are now calling me 5 times a day to change it.

It shoudl be free, but I don't want a "upgraded" modem if I dont have any problems. People at hardwarezone have been reporting "downgraded" speeds ever since they "upgraded" the modem.

It was like last year in abt September or so when there's a period of lotsa disconnections on cable dat affected some users. Apparently some Terayon modem owners had such a problem too.

Well, its a refurb modem with no warranty which means if it goes kaput, u will have to buy a new modem urself. If u dun mind, u can try ur luck.

Ok, your current modem works well and fast... so don't change it.
So they are pestering you to change it... Well, treat them like those pple from insurance or whatever who call you to do survey, etc...
Jus say "Sorry, I'm very busy now, can't talk."
I think after a few more calls, they will give up.

Hehe I tried that once already, said that I was not interested to change as there's no problem, and that I was busy. Then they called me again and again - so far I haven't picked up, and they left a total of about 7 voice mails to date.

    They are mad!
The next time they call, answer their call and tell them in a very firm voice that you do not want to change your modem and if they call again, you will report them to the police for harassment. That should scare them enough to stop their harrassment activities.

I think they are desperate - and the more desperate they are, the more I suspect it will be to their benefit and not mine if I change it.

The only problem is that there is a term in the T&Cs which says that you are supposed to give them access to the modem if they want to do any software upgrade or whatever maintenance.
