I just bought an AF-S DX VR 18-200mm AF-S f3.5-5.6G lens yesterday and was trying it out. Wondering if anyone can advice on an observation that has been puzzling me.
Test scenario: Mounted on D70 and using the built-in flash. No lens hood. With and without a Nikon NC 72mm filter, all images that are taken at 18mm seems to have a shadow at the center bottom of the image. All images taken at above 18mm doesn't display this phenomenon. Is this normal? Not sure if this means that it is not possible to use built-in flash for 18-200 VR at 18mm? -WK |

Go get an external flash.
Viewing from the side I think you can tell that flash light would be partially blocked.

The built in flash can be impeded by the large lens body. Get an external flash.

From experience, it is not possible to use built-in flash with 18-200VR. It gets worse when you use lens hood that comes with 18-200VR. It is necessary to use external flash when using 18-200VR lens.
