Hello friends, I've been a LF photographer for more than a decade. I do documentary/landscapes/architectural works. I have an interest in filmmaking. May I ask if there is a professional filmmaker (preferably documentary) here who needs a crew to help out, locally or overseas. I can learn from the ground, on the job if you are willing to teach. I am happy to show my portfolio.
I'm taking a long shot here. Don't mean to appear bold. Thanks for listening. |

Hi,
Thanks for offering. What is the goal of the project? What is the message? What do we hope to achieve? Thanks! Zac

We are trying to arrange a second crew to shoot a "Making Of Toll" video film during the production of Toll. Other people involved in the project may have their own personal goals for it, but this is my point of view. I would like to see this film, together with Toll itself, spur further activities in local filmmaking in Singapore. I believe there are a lot of people around with talents, dreams and maybe even some free time , but without the connections or know-how to take it any further. Maybe we can help change this situation.By the way, we will provide the equipment for the "Making Of Toll" shooting. http://www.opencube.com.sg/toll/ |

Actually, for anyone interested in making documentaries, I would think this is a good opportunity to gather some valuable material. The subject could even be extended to cover the difficulties in getting the project into production - some tension - will this film ever get started? Then it could follow the fortunes of the film Toll (assuming it gets made) after the production stage and how it fares in future when entered in various competitions in Singapore and overseas. We are not really setting any boundaries (such as "record the camera") for this, and the imagination of those involved are the only real limiting factors. |

Just wanna add in afew points.. if you wanna get into filmmaking, watch lotsa films, and watch lotsa "making of"
And better still if you have a chance to be on a set and see how ppl get their things done. Generally a set would be closed to outsiders, so the only way to get near the set is acutally to work(contribute) something during the production.. (Assistants, runners, etc.) So even if you on set just to make coffee for jack neo or to press the record button of a video camera, you acutally do get to see how a film is made. I think the production is still in need of drivers, photographers, videograhers, gfx designers. Let Jaegersing know =) Regards dave |

Thank you for the invitation and your points of view. I totally embrace that. We were traveling on different routes to the same destination. Yet we are seeking different goals as we have different audiences in mind. Perhaps that’s why I do not enjoy watching most films. Technical stuff is important to help us communicate effectively with our audience. No doubt about that. I had wanted to focus on why a film is made rather than how. Not simply “tagging along”. If I were not interested in Jack Neo’s tale, he’s not going to want me there to make coffee, for sure. By the way, “I No Stupid” hit the nail! That’s purpose. So I would really want to be involved in films about life or social issues, fiction or not. We must have a good story to tell. Maybe not technically perfect, but we WILL get there.
Again I say nothing wrong with your project. I wasn't trying to pee on your campfire. Good day! |

Then to answer ur "Want to get into a filmmaking" question...
1. Have a story in mind (Any story works really) 2. Get a Producer, Director, Scriptwriter. 3. They will handle the rest. To add on.. To be honest, its wrong to think that everyone on set loves the movie they r making. Some of them are doing what they are doing because its their profession. - Half of them do it because they like it, the other half because they need the money Some of them are doing it because they want to get a film made - Half fo them wants to get "THE" film made. The other half wants to get "A" film made. Oh ya, it'll take more than pee to put out my campfire =P |

The web is on the way. I'll have a book too. If it turns out good I'm happy to send you a copy. If it's bad, it belongs to the waste bin. You don't have to like my work even if I say it's good. Thanks for your input and let's close this thread.
